There is something special about this game. For me it's not the parkour perse, and not even the storyline... But there is just something appealing that this game has. The environment, the vibes, the soundtrack... It's just so nice.

A very good but short game. Pros: the gameplay (fluid, faastpaste parkour with the occasional gunfight) the worldbuilding (1984 Distopia where contraband mail is sent via couriers like yourself) the story (i wish to not spoil anything lmao) Cons: literally nothing great game

This game is what happens when you allow developers complete freedom to create and design a game that THEY themselves want to play aswell as share to the world, giving inspirations towards many small games or even spiritual successors to keep this type of genre alive as it's really unique, entertaining, engaging and satisfying to playthrough once you master the simple controls. My few dislikes would be, the random crashing that would happen, the broken v-sync (broken glass = low framerate), sometimes the controls don't register properly so you end up missing jumps and lastly the combat sections where you're required to use guns in order to pass since it just doesn't fit what the game is going for and really feels more of a Publisher demand than it is a Developer choice. Mirror's Edge from 2009 till now, is one of the most visually beautiful games with a really unique gameplay style and banger soundtrack that once again goes to show what happens when a group of developers are free to make anything they want which leads to alot of creative ideas being shared for the world to play and enjoy.

This game's from a time when EA & DICE were cool and not afraid to experiment - giving us a wholly unique experience, full of mesmerizing scenery, unmatched immersion, a beautiful soundtrack and a cast of believable characters. In no way does Mirror's Edge overstay its welcome. It might not be the most memorable game, but it's up there with F.E.A.R. and Portal 1 for me - great experiences that leave you fulfilled and intrigued at the level of creativity presented in the mechanics and/or visuals. Mirror's Edge holds up well today, it's definitely still a looker in 2024. Beware of two things however, the seldom-seen HUD elements are rendered at a lower resolution and therefore don't look good in 4K, this is an issue that primarily affects the subtitles. Finally, as of winter 2023 the servers for the game's leaderboards and challenges have shut down. These game modes are still available in the game, just present in "offline mode". This shouldn't be too much of an issue as those were populated by cheaters anyway, but I believe custom community-made challenge runs are no longer available.

Mirror's Edge is a good allrounder, with a unique identity, that is still enjoyable today. At least I still enjoyed playing it even more than in 2010, since i can max out the graphics now and I found a way to change the FOV. I strongly suggest changing the FOV from the guide, because it makes the game more comfortable to play. The story is good. It just somehow passes me by every time i play the game. It's still functional and binds the gameplay together well. The controls aren't perfect, but it is still very enjoyable when you land a movement sequence right. Visuals are really nice. A lot of uniformal dystopian white contrasted with bright colors. Nice high resolution textures too. Coming from a 2009 game, very impressive. Probably my favorite aspect of the game is the soundtrack and implementation of it. It just snaps into place and i can't picture the game without it. Perfect blend of different electronic music styles. The game isn't perfect, but I can overlook the minuses because the game does a lot of things right. It's a work of art for me. I just wish Steam had the DLC which has some pretty cool courses.
