This is pretty tough to recommend, but I'd give it a 5/10. This is a story game, the puzzles and platforming are secondary. Really, they're only there to be a break from the walking simulator the main part of this game is. Not a criticism, just saying that if you're looking for interesting platforming or puzzles, you won't find them. The story of this game is wonderful, the art style is really impressive too. It surrounds themes of death, life, work, family, and insecurity. I'd say it's worth buying on a 50% or more sale. There's so many bugs, poor design choices, and unaddressed issues. There is no chapter select, there is no keybind change, all cutscenes are unskipable, overly long cutscenes, the crawling animations are so godamn slow, the animations stutter, the textures changing before and after animations are inconsistent, textures will appear on the wrong layers, there's a tree that will not stop blinking out of existence, etc. I enjoyed it, but the amount of problems it has that have gone unaddressed makes it hard to recommend. Buy it on a sale, and use a walkthrough if you want the achievements without spending another 4-5 hours of your time.

This is tough to recommend. On one hand, it has extremely tedious game-play, clunky platforming and it's difficult to even identify what the core game-play loop is. On the other, it's a beautifully realized world, a touching story and art design that left me awe-struck. Near the end I found myself tearing up at how poignant it all was. If you're someone who can forgive lackluster game-play for good writing/dialogue, world-building and sheer style, I can give this a recommend.

This game is for you if you are looking for something: - slow/story paced - narrative focused, less puzzle and minimal platformery gameplay - beautiful visuals and sound combo - like dogs When in doubt, wait for a sale. I highly enjoyed it, though not all was perfect. It also ran well on my system and I didn't encounter any bugs.

Tl;dr: story, art, music and voice-acting are fantastic and work together in a way few games manage. The "game" side feels superfluous, and calling it a "puzzle platformer" is something of a misnomer. Recommended with a caveat. PROS + stunningly beautiful hand-drawn art. Kept running back and forth to get a better look, and I took so many screenshots. The penultimate island, specifically, + mood is a perfect blend of "oo, pretty" and "DEEPLY DISTURBING" that very few games meet (see again: the penultimate island) + great narrator, well-written and acted + music matches everything + character-based story that hits hard without sliding into sentimentality, especially for anyone who has ever struggled with issues of guilt or self-worth. (I see some reviewers were expecting more plot, adventure or lore, but Minute of Islands is very firmly a character-based story. By its nature, it is very open-ended, and this is a good thing.) CONS - not... an awful lot of game going on. This feels more like an interactive comic, and while the comic itself is, as mentioned above, absolutely gorgeous, this leads to my next point: - the "game" elements are very simple and linear, with most puzzles consisting of "follow the linear path to the next location where you press the appropriate key when prompted". - the three underground areas are almost indistinguishable, disappointing after the rich, varied backgrounds found elsewhere. The puzzles within are equally indistinct. - lots of backtracking: end-of-level shortcuts are noneexistent, a problem exarcerbated by the frustrating platforming. One should not have to consult a video walkthrough to find which part of this beautifully-drawn platform I am allowed to climb / drop down from. It really doesn't help that the control for dropping down (down + space) also reads as the control for climbing (space). - memory cutscenes force Mo to stand still while an audio plays. Why not let me move? It feels like the designers wanted me to stop and look at the art, which I was already doing .
