A wonderful conclusion to the tale of Geron and Nuri, interwoven with the story of Sadja a tenacious and compelling deuterogonist. Again, like its prequel, Chains of Satinav, Memoria blesses the player with beautiful artwork, great vistas, decent dialogue and voice acting, and a compelling story. The puzzles this time are more intuitive, and reasonably challenging. Without spoiling anything (small spoiler alert), the narrative does leave some space for a possible sequel, and even though a decade has passed since this game came out, I do hope Daedalic choose to revisit this world, and some , if not all, of these characters. Memoria : 8.5/10

This is one of the rare cases where the sequel improves upon the original. The game is more polished, has a more better written story, more intriguing characters, better voice acting, a hint system that prevents player from getting stuck (and having to look up walkthroughs)... this has to be one of my favourite point-and-click adventure games of all time. A must-play for any fan of the genre.

Should have been called "Chains of Satinav 2" This direct Sequel, takes place right after the ending of the original game, newcomers might get confused starting with Memoria. The Dark Eye, the successful German competitor to D&D is known for its high-fantasy setting. One of my grips with "Chains of Satinav" was how the story was surprisingly low-fantasy, following a simple peasant. Memoria on the other hand offers 2 timelines: the magical age of princess Sadja and the current medieval age of our console peasant Geron. The story was intriguing and charming. This time we explored the characters in more detail unlike the 1st game. The 2 timelines coming together and the solution to the riddle were well done. Memoria is an improvement, it has better animations and generally feels more polished. The puzzles were intelligent and coherent, except a few in the final chapters that resorted to the dreaded moon logic. (Moon logic was bearable enough, compared to other point & click games that are riddled with them) I actually got more interested in the Dark Eye setting, sadly most of it is in German, luckily I do speak German ;D Good game, good time, did not regret it.

Adventure games are basically stories whose progress is interrupted by puzzles, and Memoria is no exception in that regard. Most of its puzzles follow solid logic, with only a couple get a quirked eyebrow and a "seriously?" The story that is told is reminiscent of A Thousand and One Nights, in that you are reading/playing one story that is telling you a second story. The first story feels mundane. You may think that a main character who has some magic and is trying to turn a talking bird back into a fairy would make for an exciting protagonist, but he's basically a whiny nerd who gets kicked around by everyone else. Meanwhile the main character of the second story is a heroine overcoming a multitude of obstacles and unearthing secrets that can undo the world and even taught me why the game series/world is called "Dark Eye of Satinav" (I'm embarrassed to say I never knew why, even though I started with Realms of Arkania: Blade of Destiny way back when). One of these is just objectively more interesting. Both stories come to a satisfying conclusion, the secondary story moreso. That's not to say that the storytelling wasn't without flaws. Like many adventure games, the story itself has moments where its just downright thin, as the bulk of your gameplay is not experiencing the story so much as it is solving the puzzles. Memoria's graphical style is beautiful. It is arguably marred by some of the animations - the walking is generally stiff and the mouths just don't look right. Its not a deal breaker though, and fairly par for the course with adventure games in my experience. There are a few truly stand out moments, like when a tree suddenly sprouts eyes and, for a brief moment, the story feels downright Lovecraftian. On the audio side, the music is average, while the voice acting ranges from great to phoned in.

It's a must to play "Chains of Satinav" before starting this game, otherwise you'll miss a lot of depth. I loved the story of this game, the riddles are easy enough most of the time, and the game has interesting mechanics with the magic spells. Overall I really enjoyed this game, it's easily recognisable as a true Daedalic adventure <3
