Medal of Honor (2010) was EA’s attempt to revive the classic franchise and bring it into the modern warfare era. The core gameplay loop is still a classic linear FPS experience: follow objectives, move through different environments, and complete missions involving raids, reconnaissance, sniping, and direct combat. Compared to Call of Duty, which was already moving toward a more cinematic style at the time, Medal of Honor chose a more documentary-like approach. Unfortunately, this direction was held back by the writing, which never really left a strong impression. The game uses multiple playable characters and tries to show modern warfare from different perspectives. However, these characters do not feel very different to play. Most of the gameplay still focuses on small-scale special operations, such as using the environment to move stealthily, working with your squad, and completing objectives with limited resources. That said, this approach actually fits the theme of the game quite well. This game is not really about being a heroic super soldier. Instead, it focuses more on the exhaustion, confusion, and psychological pressure that come with war. Some missions, especially “Belly of the Beast,” do a great job of creating a feeling of isolation and helplessness on the battlefield, and those moments are genuinely impressive. However, the game has plenty of problems. The enemy AI is extremely dumb, the tactical depth is very limited, and the game’s scripting is way too restrictive. In some missions, enemies will keep spawning no matter how many you kill until you wait for air support to save you. It makes the combat feel less like a tactical operation and more like following a preset script. As for the gunplay, whether Medal of Honor or Black Ops has the better shooting system really depends on personal preference. In the end, Medal of Honor (2010) naturally became another game that was overshadowed by the legendary Call of Duty: Black Ops, along with Battlefield: Bad Company 2. But honestly, I don’t think it was simply a bad game, I mean, It wasn’t defeated by some random FPS, it was competing against some of the most polished and successful shooters from the golden age of FPS games, so its lack of major success was not really surprising. After Medal of Honor: Warfighter failed to revive the series in 2012, the franchise eventually disappeared completely. Looking back today, it is still a little disappointing, because Medal of Honor (2010) had some genuinely great ideas and its own unique identity. 7.5/10

I have played this game a few times since it came out, and even here in 2025 it is still in my top ten. As a former U.S. Navy serviceman, I connect with this one in a way I never have with Call of Duty or Battlefield. Those games are great for spectacle, but Medal of Honor feels real. From the moment it starts, you can tell this game was made with respect. The radio chatter, the way the team moves, the quiet professionalism, it is not about flash or kill counts. It is about brotherhood, the mission, and the cost. The developers worked with actual Tier 1 operators, and you can feel it in every firefight. Nothing feels exaggerated; it feels earned. The campaign is short, but every mission counts. The mountain fights and night raids are some of the most immersive in any military shooter I have played. And that ending is brutal. It stays with you long after the credits roll. It is not cinematic; it is personal. I really wish EA had kept this series going, but they stopped supporting it in favor of Battlefield. That is a shame, because there is nothing else like Medal of Honor. It is a grounded, respectful look at modern warfare, and it still holds up beautifully. If you want a military shooter that feels authentic rather than over the top, this is the one. Respectful, emotional, and real.
