I cannot recommend this game enough, on the token that this is the first review i have ever bothered to write, it really says a lot about a game when you have to make manual changes to config files to get it working, yet it still has a mostly positive review rating on steam, the only reason it isn't overwhelmingly positive is because those people did not make the following changes to their config files: go to steamapps\common\Man Of Prey Autoexec file, and add the following and save // Commands executed at program startup Cam_UseAngles false FreeCamera True and in the in-game options menu change the camera sensitivity to something besides zero. but i guess the point is, anyone who can't figure this out doesn't really have any business playing a game like this, literally the best single-player experience i've ever played in all my 30 years of gaming since i was playing a sega mastersystem, and the only game i've ever bothered to review, which i don't really think can be called a review as i am not even going to touch on the content of the game at all, you'll find enough of that in other people's musings, it's more of just a recommendation and a dismissal of any negative reviews. basically... there is a minimum comprehension level required to play this game, if you pass it, you'll probably enjoy the game, otherwise you might be one of the types who leave negative reviews repeatedly mentioning "the camera not working" etc

Marauder is a party-based, sort-of real-time strategy game where you control main character Akhmetzyanov and his crew, equipping them and developing their skills throughout a linear story. The most important aspect of Marauder is probably its pause system, combined with the issue of orders, which allows you to survey the battlefield fully and prepare to shoot foes. Every action takes time to perform, and you can see this time elapse in the bottom left of the UI once you've issued an order and un-paused the game. There is a crucial feature in the auto-pause system, which is highly configurable from the game's options and allows the player to determine if and when the game automatically pauses whenever something happens; E.g. A new enemy enters your field of vision, one of your characters is injured or fires their weapon, so on. If you've got multiple characters and foes on the battlefield, this auto-pause system is highly important to keeping track of the on-going combat and gives you ample opportunity to react and plan accordingly. The rub is that, due to this unique feature, the action stops probably every two seconds and it is excruciatingly annoying. Once the player has turned off all the auto-pause features in favour of manual operation, Marauder becomes a little more involving. The firearms available are absolutely lethal and the team members are actually competent shooters; if you execute proper positioning in an encounter, they will mow down enemies like it's nothing, although I expect this is attached to difficulty selection. The enemies are similarly well-equipped in most cases, so it's quite fair, although they aren't really invested with the ability to deal with explosive mines (except by jumping on them.) The graphics are dated for the year of release, but they have those realistic-ish textures in the same vein as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. which is assisted also by the absolutely wrecked-looking environments. Navigating these environments is a headache due to the really, really bad camera controls: there are solutions available to configure the camera properly, from changing the in-game settings to altering a config file, but in my experience it did very little to help. In terms of RPG elements, each character has access to a pretty simple point-allocation perk tree, increasing their affinity with certain weapons or making them expert lockpickers, sprinters, boxers, etc. The characters also have their own inventories and can carry gear for you, but it's more important to equip them according to their strengths. The market that can be visited throughout the story uses a nice bullets-as-currency system, whilst also allowing goods bartering. The choices available are extensive and weapon variety is good. The premise and story, littered with grim components throughout, is fairly simple and probably better told in the actual book on which Marauder is based, which I haven't read. I hope whomever was responsible for the English translation is getting by these days. I lost all patience to complete Marauder after battling with the jank for multiple levels, but it absolutely had its moments. At the listed price, Marauder is best suited to patient players seeking a novel strategy game after having exhausted most other options; for everybody else, wait for a heavy discount.

Despite some crashes and lags (what do you expect from old games) Very well made game and very interesting as such. Will now read the books. 11/10 better than the trash nowadays called AAA, this is the real AAA games from the ancient times.

Marauder has to be one of the few games on steam that i have wanted to play for a long time but never had the time to play, it just collecting dust. The game is short and sweet, it didn't take me long to play through it. The camera and movement is clunky, and sometimes the game crashed. but i really enjoyed playing it
