Mahjong Pretty Girls Battle is one of the few Riichi Mahjong game on Steam, and on PC in general. Those familiar with mahjong puzzle games will find Riichi Mahjong quite different from them: rather than a puzzle, this is a competitive tabletop game with very complex rules. This game doesn’t have any kind of tutorial for those new to mahjong, but there are plenty of tutorials and rules guides available on the internet for those interested in learning it. As someone who only truly learned mahjong over this game I can attest that it is a lot of fun even to those new to mahjong. So if you like mahjong or tabletop games in general, Mahjong Pretty Girls Battle has my full recommendation!

Okay, yes the selling point is the boobs, but I, being ace, get nothing out of them, so I actually bought it for the game. Also this review applies for the school girl version as well, just replace "boobs" with "tiny mini-skirts" I'm a pretty avid fan of Cantonese-rules mahjong, and this game is pretty similar. However, I cannot recommend this game unless you already have at least a basic understanding of how to play the game - because this game just dumps you in there like a crazed scout leader, and if you don't know what you're doing, you'll lose quickly before you figure out how to play. The game does toss you a few life-rings here and there, however. It will prompt you if you can call to pick up, or declare preparedness (it makes sense in context), and it will auto-sort. It won't let you move the cards around manually though - most won't mind that, but I, and the guy from Hong Kong who taught me how to play, often depend on doing that, so yeah... The rules are actually extremely varied too - you can set all sorts of rules, such as your starting bank, what bonus cards are active, and even certain melds and hands. For a simple execution, it's very detailed in its guts. The camera angle is stupid - set it to over-head or you'll miss what's being discarded - also, you can't ever see the whole table, so you need to move it around - it's not difficult, but it's very annoying to have to continuously do And yeah, the boobs. ...If the reason you're buying this is to look lewdly at girls, I'd recommend getting something different. Go troll tsumino or something.

The name might seem a little off-putting for some, but if you want to delve into Japanese-style mahjong then this is pretty much the only option on Steam right now. The "Schoolgirl edition" is the same game just with a different skin. GAMEPLAY In terms of Riichi rules, the options menu allows you to configure the ruleset to your preference (length of game, red 5's, particular Yaku's etc). The AI of each character is set to prefer a particular playstyle, to take extra risks in attack or be safer in defense, to favour melds or triplets etc. Game progression is measured through unlocking characters, so you basically play each character to win a set number of times and unlock the next character. All the while the detailed stats page will keep track of all your results so that say after 50 or so games you will be able to analyse your playstyle. There is also a list of in-game achievements but these are not rendered in Steam. SOUND AND LOOKS There are two language options, Japanese or English. The English translation is not very well rendered and does not seem to have been done by a native speaker. You should be able to figure it out though. The 23 playable characters consist of happy picture & sound clip, and a sad one. That's it - you might find one or two annoying after a bit but if you keep your opponents randomised then you won't notice as much. There's nothing inappropriate for say ages 15 & over - some of the characters have revealing clothes or a large busom and that's that. The music is OK but very repetitive. A couple of extra tracks could have made this much better. The playfield is excellently rendered. You have a couple of options for viewpoints and table colour, and the display style is clear and intuitive. The tiles are neatly differentiated. CONCLUSION Mahjong Pretty Girls Battle is, at heart, a solid one-player Riichi Mahjong game which you can trust to bring your skills up to scratch, Beyond that, there's no multiplayer, so you will need to use this to "graduate" towards a web-based title.

For this game I definitely need meh button. Cons: - Where is multiplayer?! - Interface is not too smooth. For example you need to move screen if you want to check calls made by your opponents; - Translation is terrible . Names of winning configurations (yaku)? Forget it! Of course they translated them into 'English' (for example 1.5 Slam! Yeah! It's obvious what made my eyes bleed) but I recommend switching to Japanese language (save your soul). - 'Pretty Girls' voices are annoying. - AI is well... not impressive. - If you want to learn how to play riichi mahjong this game won't help you at all. Pros: - It's riichi mahjong (I guess the only one available at steam localized into English). - Gameplay is nice, however I needed some time to get used to interface. - I was afraid it would be mix of mahjong and dating sim. Thank goodness it's not ;) it's just mahjong with some animated girls. - Girls appear very rarely on screen. - You can mute all the sounds! - Each opponent has set different playstyle. - Mahjong is [url=http://i.imgur.com/NJ2uD11.gif]awesome ;) My rating: 7/10

This game is about 95% japanese mahjong and 5% busty anime babes. This game is good if you already know how to play japanese mahjong and understand the rules and hands. If you don't know how to play and you are buying the game for the girls, you will be disappointed. I was not disappointed though! I enjoy playing japanese mahjong, so playing against cute girls and hearing cute girl voices only enhances it. Now I just really want to win more so I can unlock more girls. It's a little buggy and the translation is a little silly but nothing that really stops me from playing the game. I agree it would be a lot better if we could do multiplayer!! 8/10 for a japanese mahjong game
