It's a slot machine rougelite. Deceptively simple, actually very challenging in practice. Very fun too. I've complained in the past about rougelites that make the player rely too heavily on RNG for their wins, and even though this games does that I'm not complaining this time. Why is that? Well, each game lasts ten or fifteen minutes if you win. If you lose, you probably lost at the start and less than five minutes of your life was taken by the game. Compare that to, say, Risk of Rain 2 where I can invest an hour or more of my life into a god run only to be killed instantly in a single second due to some bad luck or a glitch. It stings less to lose in Luck be a Landlord, and it makes it much more enjoyable enjoyable to keep replaying even if I go all night without a win.

Very fun game. Lost my first 8 runs and then it clicked and now I’m on month 31 with a +99 Pirate, deciding if I should just quit before I get too addicted. I mean, it inspired Balatro so you know it’s good.

The game took took some time to click and understand synergies; unlike the other games in the "Not a Real Casino Bundle", the game didn't hook me in as quick as Balatro or Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers did. It didn't have as much staying power for me either. However, it was still a fun time, enough for me to give it a good two hours at least. Definitely worth a try if you just like playing slots and seeing how much money you can get from the symbols that showed up.

Honestly, I haven't come across many games that financially incentivises the murder of billionaires while also being a slot machine. For that, I can only endorse this game.

Just noticed my playtime and felt like a jerk for not leaving a review. This game is an all-time great for me. Probably my top chill game that still tickles my brain. Great balance of skill and luck that not many games (IME) have found. Tons of combos that win runs, especially if you're curious and willing to risk losing. Probably my favorite wins aren't the gamebreaking ones, but the runs where I'm running two or three different, completely incompatible strats at the same time and somehow getting it across the finish line, grinning at the spectacle the whole time - like driving a Rube Goldberg vehicle with a wheel, a kind-of round stone and a cane. Awesome fun. The zany stuff that can happen does happen but not all the time. The balance of the game makes it feel unique and special when it does go bananas. Been playing since early access when a couple strats were absolutely busted and loved the learning curve and finding out all the silly stuff even that early core of the game would do. Immediately played through the 15 apartment floors (an ascension-style difficulty climb) as soon as they came out in an update, really enjoyed how it cranked down on the importance of player choice. It would make me wonder if every run were winnable on the upper floors, as sometimes I felt cursed from the get-go. But unlike some other rogueish games, the sting of losing falls away quick, and starting another attempt rarely feels like a chore. I love that the game pushes back like that on the highest settings. When 1.0 came out, I deleted my save file and started the ascension over just to have an excuse to play the game even more. The dev added mod support some time back and recently made those tools even more robust and there's a lot of fun stuff the community has been doing with that. As a final testament, LBaL spawned its own subgenre of slotlike deckbuilding games, which to me shows how excellent a formula this one is. Highly worth the asking price.
