As a co-op dungeon crawler, it's strictly average, dipping below average if played solo. As a combat sports game, it's surprisingly fun. "Goblin Ball" is an alternate gameplay mode that feels like a mix between rugby, football/soccer and gladiator combat. There are several weapons to choose from that vary in how good they are at defending, shooting the ball and attacking other players. As a game progresses, monsters will be added onto the field, making every game a chaotic mess (in a good way). If this game were called "Goblin Ball" and sold for $10, I would recommend it with no reservations. $18 feels a little steep to me, considering how little I enjoyed the main game. It has some charm to it, but the combat is slow and weightless, and the caves/dungeons you explore all kind of feel the same. The layouts are randomized, but the individual rooms are always about the same, with relatively few distinct rooms per environment. There's some cute stuff you can do, like put another goblin on your shoulders, but nothing that really makes this game stick out from the crowd of roguelike dungeon crawlers. If the game's on sale for $10 or less, and you're interested in trying Goblin Ball with 3 other people that are also willing to pick it up, then I heartily recommend it.
