My first game from the Yakuza franchise and I am impressed! History and characters feel quite alive as well as the setting. The gameplay has a lot of variety with minigames and all kinds of npc interaction, and npcs have depth! Combat, which is very prominent is quite fun and flexible, you can go for the complex skills or focus on more passive habilities and stats for a more simple way of dealing with enemies! There is also nice mix win with real japan history which works great for the plot and atmosdpherre! And there is the Another life thing which I thought I wouldn´t care for, but farming, cooking, selling stuff, caring for pets and talking to Haruka felt refreshing and fun :3

I just wrapped up Like a Dragon: Ishin! and I can confidently say: this is hands-down the best entry in the entire Yakuza / Like a Dragon series for me personally. I went in expecting to casually enjoy some side quests, maybe dabble in mini-games, and at first, that’s exactly what happened. The charm, the quirky characters, and the endless things to do completely hooked me. I was singing karaoke, farming, gambling (i.e. racing chickens, playing poker or in the cho-han den), getting jumped at every turn of the street, and loving every second of it. Then I started progressing further into the story. What a story it was. I got absolutely sucked in. The twists, the emotion, the historical setting, the betrayals, the brotherhood, the themes of loyalty and justice, it all hit harder than I ever expected. I had every intention of taking my time, but the narrative grabbed me by the collar and refused to let go. Before I knew it, I was burning through the main story missions like a man possessed. The combat was a bit arcade like, but it comes with the territory for this series. It was repetitive at times, but still always fun. Having the four styles of combat you could switch it up however. Me personally I loved the wild dancer style. Regardless though I really enjoyed the combat. Even now that I’ve finished the story, I know I’m not done. There’s still a mountain of achievements and side content calling my name and I’ll be diving back in for more eventually. But honestly, it’s that rare kind of game where even if I never touched another side quest, I’d still feel like I got my money’s worth from the story and gameplay alone. Like a Dragon: Ishin! is an unforgettable experience. Whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer, this is peak RGG Studio. The storytelling, combat, worldbuilding, it's all there and almost a perfect game for me and I can't recommend it enough.

If you don't go for 100% the game is enjoyable casually, but a bit on the weak side in terms of Yakuza games, combat can feel too spammy later on and the blacksmith is a pain in the ass, still a fun game

I liked it. But it has some weak or rough spots. Firstly, the bad: - The camera sucks. On the default setting it just doesn't orient itself correctly in most situations. If you set it to manual it's functional but it's still oversensitive to obstacles and zooms in and out way too aggressively. If I were the type of person to get motion sick I'd be playing this in a puddle of my own puke. Setting it to manual makes the game playable but having to deliberately reorient the camera when you're cornered is a disadvantage in combat. It's been a while since I marathoned the rest of the series but I can't remember the camera being a thing I ever even noticed before. - It's been commented on by others but the DLC model is cancer and Sega seems hellbent on squandering their reputation more with every release they make. It's all ignorable though and the game plays fine without any of it. - The combat is pretty middling. Basically, Brawler is useless outside of a few mandatory fights, Gunman seems exclusively designed for cheesing trash mobs, Swordsman is the dedicated boss fight mode, and Wild Dancer is pretty much 'tap X to win' by the time you near the end of the upgrade tree. There are Yakuza games with worse combat, but this isn't a shining moment in the franchise. Stuff that might not appeal to everyone: - Everything about this game is a bit dry compared to the mainline series. The story is 100% faction politics, intrigue, conspiracy, etc. Based on a lot of the negative reviews here some people find it boring, but personally this kind of thing is exactly what I enjoy in the writing from this series. If you like more emotional character drama and personal struggle this might be bland. Most of the characters tend to be more downbeat and formal than in other games, because they're Samurai, naturally. As a setting, it has some charm but however you look at it, the scenery in 19th century Kyou is a bit Spartan-looking in most places compared to the modern games. The nice lighting in UE4 does a lot to enhance the atmosphere but the game is obviously striving for a far different mood. - A lot of the minigames and core systems in the game are a bit grindy. To progress in the game you have to upgrade weapons, which require materials so you'll need to do the battle dungeons, and you'll need to unlock the blacksmith levels by crafting a bunch of expensive weapons to donate, which cost money the battle dungeons won't pay well for until the end, so you'll need to do the farming minigame, which in the end eventually degrades into just cycling through menus and repeating the same actions over and over, a la the real estate game in yakuza 0 or the business minigame in Yakuza: LAD. To be honest I can get immersed in this kind of grind pretty easy, but it's not everyone's thing for sure. All that aside, even with its flaws this is a pretty cool diversion from the main series.

Despite being a different game than the other yakuza games, it's still fun to play The story as usual keeps you interested Gameplay is fun Graphice are fine Definitely worth playing It's sad that the new ones are overpriced
