tl;dr Only Lego game to ever give me goosebumps - must play for LotR fans Overview: This feels like a nobrainer, as "Lego Lord of the Rings" mostly explains itself. Over the course of 17 Levels you relive the story of the three Peter Jackson Movies, and discover the huge open world of Middle-Earth in between the missions. A lot of studs, characters, Mithril Items and the classic red bricks wait for you to be discovered and get collected. The Good Stuff: It is an amazing retelling of the movie trilogy, with the derpy Lego touch delivering quite a couple of chuckles. I'll just mention the Witch King and dark corners here. Although i knew what was going to happen story wise, i still was surprised quite often. By the creativity of the levels, how they managed to lead you through the specific parts and partly by the fact, that you are actually playing certain scenarios, instead of just being shown a cutscene. The epicness of some moments is quite unchallenged. I sincerely had goosebumps more than once, which does not happen that often, especially not in a Lego Game. Exploring Middle-Earth in a Lego setting feels kinda wholesome, discovering all the relevant places and just being able to go there was amazing. Like it's adequate for a Lego Game, there are a lot of characters to collect, with most of the major story characters available, and some fillers. Also i genuinely enjoyed the bossfights which feels like a pleasant surprise. No, they are no Elden Ring adversaries, but they have several attacks, specific ways of being damaged and are just overall incredibly well staged. The Sorta-Kinda-Grinds-My-Gears-Stuff: Yes, it was good, but some levels felt a bit uninspired. While the devs were pretty creative at times, they resorted to tedious repetitive actions at other times. If you have to do the same thing like five times in a row it gets old. It could be worse, but it had me thinking "what ... again?" occasionally. Performance wise everything was fine, with some minor issues and bugs, but nothing too drastic. For most characters there is sadly no need or use case. Mostly you pick the same couple of heroes, because they can deal with stuff, and others just can't. Many characters don't do anything at all, they are just ... there. If you want to play the game or the story in free mode with them, by all means, but they alone wont help you collecting everything. Also, it could be a local/hardware issue, but at times, the character selection was very wonky and did not really work as intended, which got a wee bit aggravating at times, in situations where you have to cycle through your characters often. Oh, and the bonus level just kinda sucks, let's not talk about that. The Atrociously-Bad Stuff: Nope, nothing to see here. Achievement-Hunter-Things: Basically collect everything and get 100%. Furthermore there are a couple of level and interaction specific achievements. Some of which are a bit buggy and need some luck or minor troubleshooting, but the problems are popular and widely discussed, with different possible solutions (i managed, so can you). The road to 100% gets slightly unnerving in the end. Just collecting everything gets tedious at some point. Furthermore, the movement is a bit rough around the edges and you will learn that, when you really want to do everything. There are a couple of jump puzzles and stuff like that, which the game is not really designed for doing. Other than that, you have to play each level at least twice, if you start Freeplay without the right characters or Mithril items for every possible interaction even more often, some preparation is recommended (i used the IGN Walkthrough for assistance). Some people seem to struggle with the "Delved to greedily..." Achievement, for which you have to collect 10 billion studs, but it's actually not that hard and comes naturally, if you focus on the stud multiplier red bricks first. DLC's are not needed. Conclusion: It is totally up to you, how extensive you play this, there is no need to collect everything, only the story can be enjoyed. With that being said, for Lord of the Rings fans i actually consider this to be a must play. Especially because of the aforementioned goosebumps parts, which make up for a bit of redundancy. Also, the unnerving parts where exclusively related to the achievement journey, so they will not be encountered, while going for the story levels. Not much more to say, just grab the game and have an epic time.

it's a fun and slightly comedic take on a beloved story, letting players relive the adventures of Middle-earth in a fresh way. It brought back childhood memories of my old LEGO set with Frodo, Sam, Gollum, and Shelob! You get to play as members of the Fellowship and more, switching characters to use their unique abilities, which keeps the gameplay engaging and dynamic. The game's humor lightens up even the darkest moments, making iconic scenes both recognizable and refreshingly playful. Exploring Middle-earth in brick form is a delight, with tons of hidden secrets and charming details to discover along the way.

Probably the best Lego game out there. I love that it uses the actual voices/sounds from the movies. If you're a LOTR fan, you'll love this.
