it's a fun and slightly comedic take on a beloved story, letting players relive the adventures of Middle-earth in a fresh way. It brought back childhood memories of my old LEGO set with Frodo, Sam, Gollum, and Shelob! You get to play as members of the Fellowship and more, switching characters to use their unique abilities, which keeps the gameplay engaging and dynamic. The game's humor lightens up even the darkest moments, making iconic scenes both recognizable and refreshingly playful. Exploring Middle-earth in brick form is a delight, with tons of hidden secrets and charming details to discover along the way.

LEGO is no longer just a great building block that can be used to build practically anything. We gamers know very well that in addition to bricks, LEGO is also a successful series of games that usually portrays the biggest movie icons. The Lord of the Rings fairly faithfully follows the events of the original film, which will definitely be appreciated by all fans of the trilogy, as well as uninitiated players who are given enough information to understand the plot and the outcome of the story. Although quite logically several passages were removed from the game and a few of them were changed in the interest of integrity and the running of the game, but this does not detract from the experience in any way. We can be grateful for the fact that all the important events have been preserved and it is only a matter of skipping the more boring passages - wandering through nature, longer conversations, etc. It doesn't hurt either to lighten the story, which the authors probably resorted to in some passages due to the PEGI rating. For example, the killing of Boromir of Gondor with a broomstick and a banana can be seen, which serves its purpose well - such scenes are spared for small children, while adults can have a good time with them. In addition, this and other reliefs were hidden in a larger group of funny scenes, and therefore they do not draw too much attention to themselves, but on the contrary, they manage to naturally complete the overall funny character of (not only) Frodo's adventure. While it's a weaker piece in the series, it's still a pretty good one-off game. 15%

Probably the best Lego game out there. I love that it uses the actual voices/sounds from the movies. If you're a LOTR fan, you'll love this.

TL;DR: It's a 3.7/5. Play it if you like the LEGO Games and the LOTR franchise, but be aware of noticeable bugs and quirks of the game. It also isn't the extended edition of the movies so several scenes are missing. If you are coming from older LEGO games, like the original LEGO Star Wars games, you'll notice new features, such as: [*]Voice Acting [*]Larger open world [*]Quests in the overworld [*]Power Bricks requiring quests and not found in levels [*]A large expanse of items and weapons you can use in Free Play. [*]Late Game Custom Character Creation If coming from its sequel game, LEGO The Hobbit, you'll notice things too: [*] NO MATERIALS TO COLLECT [*]All three movies are present [*]Limited Super Strength and Explosives characters [*]Split parties (like in the movies, which can limit which characters can go where at first) [*]No horse customization or selection The following are just other complaints and comments I have: [*]Funky Physics in parts, like complicated platforming or any plank balancing. [*]Character switching glitches. For example, if you want to switch from Gimli to Legolas in the open world, occasionally you will switch to the player 2 character and THEN switch to Legolas. Additionally, when trying to press and hold the character switch button, you might end up switching to the player 2 character instead of having the selection show up. [*]My playable character just flying up in the air when walking around. [*]Death even when having invincibility (such as during auto-run segments) [*]The open world can often feel empty and the directions to your destination is often ineffective. Since it's the full Middle Earth Map, traveling can take a long time without horses, which aren't always available. [*]You get Gollum really late in the game and the plans for the Mithril Climbing Shoes are also SUPER late. [*]No treasure finding or blacksmith plans power brick, which can be frustrating when they are hidden behind a rock that you can NOT see behind ever. At the end of the day, I'm still going to 100% complete the game but I don't think I will play this one again. There are just some noticeable quality of life items that aren't present and while Middle Earth is fun to run around in and the levels are pretty close to the movies, it's just a slog at times.
