I feel like returning this. It's actually a good racing game, though some might be disappointed by the vehicle customization compared to past lego racing titles. It's not as bad as I thought it was, but it is a little limited and I see why they did that. Each vehicle has a 'deck', containing the basic underbelly and wheels of the vehicle. This is obviously done to ensure consistency in the handling and driving of vehicles. It's only a little disappointing that I'm unable to make absolutely wacky and nonsensical designs that don't work. So long as whatever design you have in your head fits onto the 'deck', you're good to go. But why do I still feel like returning it? You might be wondering. That's because the game requires a 2K account in order to even play the game. It won't even take you to the menu unless you have a 2K account linked. Might not be a big deal, if it also didn't lock some content behind the 2K account requirement. Specifically, the game wants me to 'complete my account information'. Which I'm not even going to bother with checking what it wants me to 'complete'. All I know is the game wants more information than merely linking a 2K account to my Steam account, and I refuse to hand over any additional information beyond that. 2K does try to incentivize people by offering a free, or early unlock, of a vehicle type, along with some in-game funds. But I'm still mad they even want that additional information to begin with and have chosen lock content behind an 'info-wall'. I don't believe 2K, or any publisher, needs more info than is strictly necessary, and I'm tired of these companies all want me to make accounts on their own services (just so they can sell my data or use it without my approval outside the game). I haven't played a lot of it yet, but I do want to give it a try, since the vehicle customization isn't quite as bad as I initially thought. But the account linking, and requiring of additional information, leaves a really bad taste in my mouth, so much so that even though I only spent $12, I feel like returning the game. If that isn't as big a deal for you, as it is for me, then I recommend the game. If you do buy the game though, given the customization options, walled-off content - both in-game and starting the game (I hope there is nothing else), and micro-transaction content, I would definitely recommend getting at a significant discount. If you pay more than $15 for this, I'd probably say you got ripped off.

the building is good, but slightly buggy, and the amount of basic parts that are paywalled is a bit ridiculous. the actual racing is alright but not outstanding.

It's pretty close to forza horizon 4 in legoland with superior destructibility and arcade like car handling (think mario kart). The biomes are pretty cool and the open world is genuinely a pleasure to drive, offroad, or boat through. I don't really like how in your face the microtransactions are but that's kind of the reality. Is it really annoying and a bad trend for gaming? Yes. Does it make this a bad game? Debatable, but I would say the base game makes up for it. If you're a super lego fan and yearn for the days of lego racers, I say get it. The microtransactions aren't really necessary to engage with to have fun with the game. Do not buy the season pass, complete waste of money If you buy this for your kids, I would strongly recommend delinking your credit card off the account you bought it for, cause the microtransactions are...well...VERY in your face.

Better than I expected! Stunning environments, good racing feel and definitely brings back some nostalgia from playing lego racers. The split screen coop mode is great, fun and well implemented allowing players to access menus without pausing the whole game. The one con I have with this game is I would really love to be able to play the campaign multiplayer over the internet like in the split screen mode. Its really unfortunate that you cant.

Definitely the type of game you should only purchase during a sale. Its standard pricing is pretty outrageous for the content present, which is mostly due to microtransactions and untapped potential in general. However, Lego 2K Drive is a game I can only recommend because of the sheer joy it created for an old Lego fan who used to play the hell out of the Lego Racers 2 demo. The writing is genuinely hilarious at times and casually cruising through the open world Lego worlds just makes me feel like a kid again. There’s quite a lot to discover and although there is some repetition involved in most activities, fun surprises are still around every corner. The core racing mechanics itself are not most innovative or brilliant: the drifting, power-ups and tracks are all serviceable. But you can bet it all ensures a good time. It’s mostly the Lego charm that takes it up a notch: the nostalgic models, the puns, the destroyable environment, etc. The game could have been much more though: there are only three real “worlds” to drive around in, of which Big Butte County and Prospecto Valley that feel like early levels where nothing too crazy is going on. Just when it starts to get really good and imaginative with Hauntsborough the story already comes to a close. Seems like such a wasted opportunity to play it so safe with the Lego environments when you have all these amazing themes and sets at your disposal from the real world. As a result, only three real themes are present in the game, of which two feel rather similar and familiar. Due to all the tracks having to take place on actual roads and scenery from the open world levels, most races also come across as very alike in practice. Where’s the bonkers Lego Racers feeling where you go from pirates to knights and from ancient tombs to space stations all within the same cup? Most tracks in Lego 2K Drive lack that much needed defining look or feel and therefore blur into a vague assemble within the same theme. Which is a shame. But then I get a good chuckle from the dialogue or start driving through the lovely scenery and I’m reminded again that this game is incredibly fun. Just not 60 dollars fun.
