It's a decent game. I definitely recommend it for recreational purposes between more hardcore games. + Interesting, not complicated, well-balanced mechanics. + Nice ambient music, even though it is a little bit monotonous. - The tutorial is slightly crumpled.

Landnama is a simple economy management game with only one real currency to manage: heart. Despite that apparent simplicity, there's a surprising amount of depth to the gameplay - managing that one factor is your only concern as you try to survive each coming winter, with every building and exploration demand cutting into your reserves but ultimately being an investment you can't afford not to make. By keeping things simple, Landnama manages to scratch my city-builder itch without forcing me to juggle ten resources, five production chains, and a cluttered UI. It also means that games are short, bitesize morsels that don't outstay their welcome - a satisfying victory condition you can hit in thirty minutes is a breath of fresh air compared to the usual build-em-up method of drip feeding you progress over a hundred hours. Landnama is a tightly designed little gem.

Paid £14 for the game, I would say it's worth closer to £8. There's really not much too it and it feels like this is either an early access game that will improve over time or it's one of those super basic time wasters for when you have a few minutes with nothing to do. Ironically it would make a decent mobile game but still requires more content to feel "complete". My experience of it so far is that you pick a game style (campaign, skirmish or challenge), apply a difficulty and start playing. The gameplay itself is super minimal, being combine combos from different tiles to get hearts, more hearts = more good = win and every 5 "turns" there is a winter that takes away some of your hearts. That's it. That's the entire game. There's a slight rogue-lite aspect of getting renown to unlock different clans that have different bonuses but that's fairly minimal. I've recommended the game because at it's core, it is fun. I liked it. I will play it again. In terms of a rating, it's probably a 6-10. Above average but only just, probably buy it on sale instead of full price. What I would like to see from this game is further content, building on the existing features with gradual expansions. The ways I see to do this would be, + adding more tile types as there appears to be only 6, one of which is useless plus unique "wonder" tiles. + creating a more distinct feeling between clans, perhaps visual differences for buildings. + creating more distinct zones, meaning that the glacial map doesn't generate grasslands while the wetlands doesn't generate highlands, ect. And each could have a different colour overlay, so the glacial map is lighter and blue tinted while the wetlands is darker with a brown tint. + adding tooltips to show what buildings you can currently built in zones, even if it's just a symbol for production and a symbol for bonus buildings (I.E fisherman would be a heart and shipyard would be a plus) + mark or automatically claim explorations with 0 cost.

It's nice, but the tags are totally misleading. At the time of writing this is tagged as "Roguelite, Survival, City Builder, Strategy, 2D". Of those tags I would say only 2D is a "yes" and strategy is a "maybe". It is a 2D puzzle game with some random elements and strategy choices involved. I have about 4 hours of playtime, have completed the "Saga" (campaign) three or four times and it feels like I have pretty much exhausted what the game has to offer. The graphics are nice, as is music. The UI is ok but they seem to have tried a little too hard to make it a console game playable on a PC. I recommend it, it is a nice little indie game made by three friends and the whole thing is pleasant, but it really doesn't offer much once you figure out how to think around build order and some planning/prioritizing. Each map is random but they all play the same. Increasing difficulty requires no change in strategy, only that you have smaller margin of error. I felt that it was nicer to just chill with it on difficulty 2/5 as the higher difficulty levels mostly felt like it turned the game into a simple but clunky math problem. There is only one resource, it is used for everything, and all buildings produce that same resource. There are five production buildings depending on the tile you place them on, they all have one or two booster buildings you can place next to them, and one building that increases your capacity of the one resource. Every game year ends with winter, and if you don't have enough of the resource by then two times in a row you lose. That's it.
