Landlord of the Woods is a unique indie game that explores existential themes through its intriguing narrative and distinct art style. Players find themselves in a world filled with fantasy creatures and death-themed artwork that provokes thoughts and emotions. The game combines storytelling with a variety of minigames, offering a mix of introspective moments and engaging gameplay that keeps players captivated throughout. Pros: - compelling narrative - the story is intriguing and keeps you engaged, unraveling secrets that pull you deeper into the game’s unsettling atmosphere - relatable themes - the game delves into experiences that resonate with many players, especially the life feeling monotonous and unfulfilling - mesmerising art style - the game’s visuals are both haunting and captivating, with a distinct art style - variety of minigames - a range of minigames adds diversity to the gameplay and keeps things interesting - satisfying ending - it is surprising and makes the journey feel truly complete Cons: - not very intuitive - some parts of the game can be confusing and lack clear guidance, which might leave players feeling lost - lack of hint system - its absence makes it difficult to progress when you get stuck, which can be discouraging - awkward item collection - the need for a second click to collect items disrupts the flow of the gameplay - disorganized notebook - tenants are listed out of the order in which they appear, making it confusing to track your progress - very short experience - the game can be completed in a relatively short time, which might leave some players wanting more - low replayability - with a linear story and fixed outcomes, there's little incentive to replay the game once you've finished it Overall, Landlord of the Woods presents a visually appealing experience with its beautiful art style and engaging story. While it may not be particularly scary and is quite simple and short, the game’s aesthetic and narrative are strong points. Despite some drawbacks like limited intuitiveness and replay value, its unique charm makes it a worthwhile adventure for those who appreciate indie games with a focus on storytelling and art. A true gem. I absolutely adore the art style, reminds me of children's books. The way you interact with objects and the puzzle logic are so very charming! Madison Karrh makes games that speak to some feelings deep inside of us that we perhaps haven't ever thought of verbalizing. I like things that give me feelings, but not in an obvious, forced way. It feels poetic. A chill adventure, not without surprises. After playing all of the other games from this developer, this game settles it: I will get any and all games Madison Karrh makes!

The art style carries this game. Everything looks like drawings from a children's book. Probably one about old tales. Not the Disney kind. Old folktales with a sinister streak. Nordic european myths or the original Brothers Grimm tales maybe. It's often hard to decide if the things you do and see are uncanny or cozy or both. For me, this games nails "weird", in a good way. If you think you might enjoy a game / art piece like this, just give it a try.

I played Birth before. The Landlord of the Woods shares with it the aesthetic of decay, pastel color and living-dead world. It is always nice to see a game creator with a distinguishable style. The Landlord of the Woods feels a little like a test of a craft before creating a big project. ... The ending is a little macabre too.

There are A BUNCH of free-to-dirt-cheap games out there that can be completed in anywhere from 10 minutes to 1.5 hours. Although a lot of them are kinda junk, there are many that have this feeling of walking into a local art gallery and finding work that reads somewhere between a student senior thesis and a professional exhibit. In any event, it's weird and captivating. Landlord of the Woods (Madison Karrh) is one of those games (artists). Eat your ❤️ out.
