You are so bored and unfulfilled with your life in the city that you decide to take a job offer to become the new landlord of the woods. Your job is to collect rent from the residents while helping them with their weekly quests. At the end you’re invited to their dinner party, but what for? You should play the game and find out… I saw this game during a sale and the art style reminded me so much of Birth that I had to check it out – and it’s in fact from the same developer. Instant buy. This was released before Birth and it’s similar and just as enjoyable, just a bit shorter. I played through this relatively quickly but overall this is a 45-60 minute playthrough if you take your time with it. If you like Birth or any point-and-click style puzzle game, you’ll definitely enjoy this. I encountered one bug at the first tenant: the bird did not want to let go of the snake. Easily fixed by going back to main menu and playing through the chapter again. Genuinely the only thing I disliked about playing this game was that it ended. Beautiful little art with a beautiful little story in a beautiful little game, and for me, a beautiful little ending. Perfect all around.

very quick game, but fun. was not expecting the ending, but i feel like i should have... definitely worth the price it's almost like a visual novel, but you aren't managing branching lines, just working through puzzles to get the story. i loved the art style, sketch-y, gothic, allowed "gory" things to be clear but not gross

Landlord of the Woods is a unique indie game that explores existential themes through its intriguing narrative and distinct art style. Players find themselves in a world filled with fantasy creatures and death-themed artwork that provokes thoughts and emotions. The game combines storytelling with a variety of minigames, offering a mix of introspective moments and engaging gameplay that keeps players captivated throughout. Pros: - compelling narrative - the story is intriguing and keeps you engaged, unraveling secrets that pull you deeper into the game’s unsettling atmosphere - relatable themes - the game delves into experiences that resonate with many players, especially the life feeling monotonous and unfulfilling - mesmerising art style - the game’s visuals are both haunting and captivating, with a distinct art style - variety of minigames - a range of minigames adds diversity to the gameplay and keeps things interesting - satisfying ending - it is surprising and makes the journey feel truly complete Cons: - not very intuitive - some parts of the game can be confusing and lack clear guidance, which might leave players feeling lost - lack of hint system - its absence makes it difficult to progress when you get stuck, which can be discouraging - awkward item collection - the need for a second click to collect items disrupts the flow of the gameplay - disorganized notebook - tenants are listed out of the order in which they appear, making it confusing to track your progress - very short experience - the game can be completed in a relatively short time, which might leave some players wanting more - low replayability - with a linear story and fixed outcomes, there's little incentive to replay the game once you've finished it Overall, Landlord of the Woods presents a visually appealing experience with its beautiful art style and engaging story. While it may not be particularly scary and is quite simple and short, the game’s aesthetic and narrative are strong points. Despite some drawbacks like limited intuitiveness and replay value, its unique charm makes it a worthwhile adventure for those who appreciate indie games with a focus on storytelling and art. WHO KNEW BEING A LANDLORD WOULD BE SO BIZARRE? After playing the game Birth by this same developer, I just had to have more. I wanted more of that creatively imagined adventure, more weirdness, and more of that bizarre, out-of-the-box thinking...so I purchased Landlord of the Woods . Birth seems almost normal compared to Landlord of the Woods! This is a short adventure that can be completed in less than an hour, but totally worth the price. I loved that each tenant required an unusual task to be completed before they would hand over the rent. The tasks require some creative, out-of-the-box thinking. Although the subject matter is completely illogical, the puzzles can be solved logically. The goal is to find 4 bizarre objects for each of the five tenants, which is their form of rent. However, before they will fork over the goods, they require you, the landlord, to fix whatever's broken/missing, etc., as per their contract. You will click on various arrows to get from one scene to the next. Some scenes require nothing more than a few interactions to find an object, and others require you to solve a simple puzzle. There are no puzzle instructions, and at first glance, you may be clueless as to how to solve a puzzle. Just interact with the scene by clicking on buttons, sliders, doors, etc.; this is usually all it takes to get that "Aha!" moment. The puzzles are designed to be solved by trial and error, and it's impossible to screw them up. (You won't have to replay or restart any level, regardless of what you do.) If you're looking for a game that isn't the same 'ole-same 'ole, a game that's challenging yet completely doable without having to look up solutions from a pile of walkthrough guides...you may just want to dust off your resume and apply for the position of Landlord of the Woods!
