I'd recommend it because it is nice and it's not expensive, but I'm probably not going to finish it. Fish take time to grow up, but you can't multi-task while you wait because they won't grow while the game isn't your main window. It's a bit of a deal breaker for me. EDIT: While I think someone else might have fun with this, the number of times I need to cross the same fish for a random chance at a mutation I need has become tedious and combined with the fish growth wait, it's just not worth my time to continue.

I like this game, but there's a few QOL features that would be nice to see (potentially unlocking another pond, or more achievements in the book). Ultimately I do think collection games do best when you can also unlock Steam Achievements, and it's a shame this doesn't have any. I know people will say 'it's supposed to be meditative' but if that were truly the case there wouldn't be a book with breeding achievements in-built into the game. Steam Achievements add another layer of end-game purpose, such as trying to achieve all the spotted patterns, or all the black + colour permutation etc. It would add longevity to a relaxing game. Some aspects of the game are often impossible to solve without guides (i.e. brown fish - which can leave you soft-locked for hours until you figure it out), and I'm not a fan of relaxing / chill / casual games that need guides to actually be completed. It would be great if there was a hint mechanism that people could click on that correspond to certain fish entries in the book, that make potential suggestions on how to find a fish, even if it's in the form of riddles or something. I know this isn't a problem unique to me, the comments in guides and the discussion are filled the people asking the same question/s over and over and over again re: how to find certain colours of fish because it's just not at all intuitive (especially the brown fish). The game feels like it's still in beta / incomplete. For me it's been as frustrating at times as it's been relaxing at other times. As someone who has been a long-time player of Zen Koi and Zen Koi II, it is sadly easy to see how a completely free game offers a lot more genuinely relaxing time with the koi in some ways, and while I don't expect this game to mimic that, I do think there are some QOL features that are missing. Love the colours and the soundtrack, as well as the rain soundtrack which isn't too intrusive and is nice and relaxing. The butterfly animations are pretty, along with the different colours.

I highly recommend this to anyone that likes watching fish swim and wants a relaxing game where the object is to collect and breed various colours of koi. It's not ridiculously slow or real time paced as some other aquatic simulators, so it's not as boring as you might think. It can be challenging to find the koi as requested in the collections and its fun to discover new colours and variants :D It's only downside is that the challenging content runs out too quickly :/ I would like to see challenges to breed specific koi for sale and the money used to buy pools and pool decor for displaying your favourite koi instead of shoving them in the book! Or Koi shows to compete your koi, that'd be fun too.

Koi Farm is pretty neat. The breeding to create new patterns and colors mechanic is deeper than I expected, it's pretty sophisticated. I'm still trying to figure it out. The visuals are more beautiful than I expected also. Steam reports that it's running at my monitor's max refresh of 144hz. I can't tell what resolution it is but it looks high res. There are no resolution (or fps) settings, but the game opens in a smaller window and then you can maximize the window to full screen.

Bad day? play this. Anxiety? play this. Depression? play this. Want to just focus on cute fish? play this. Not sure? play it. This game is soothing and easy enough to play for anyone. 100% recommend trying this game, even if it's not your usual "go-to." Plus, you get to see LOADS of different colorations, patterns, sizes, etc. Well worth the small price they're asking. <3 Thank you for this adorable lil fish game. :)
