The game that introduced me to Ice-Pick Lodge all those years ago, before I even knew they'd become one of my favourite game devs of all time An excellent, simple and short atmospheric experience of a game which is really what you make of it and how you perceive it. It's extremely open to interpretation and I think anyone can find something of value for themselves in its multitude of messages. Well worth the time and money

Great. I have fond memories of the game despite it being a little cryptic I ended up getting multiple different endings. Although the website makes things a little odd/confusing I found the monster illustrations there to be spookier than the ones that ended up in the game. And the addition story of "how the game came to the developers" is lame more than freaky lol. But overall, this game is great with headphones in a dark place the sound design is spooky .

A solid immersive game with plenty of room for reflection and personal thought. I'm still surprised that it got more hype than Pathologic. But this is a good project by Ice-Peak Lodge.

This "game" has been growing on me and following me ever since I've found it for the first time in 2013, I've played it a lot on a pirated version as I was unable to buy anything due to young age at the time and it just kept me captivated since. It feels indescribable due to the nature it was made, I believe everyone would have their own view and opinion on this or small groups would share one opinion together on it. I still do wonder how did the cryptic e-mail look like in its entirety, as this.. "game" was based entirely on it and the developers wanted to see the end result and see how others react to it. It was blasted with unfair reviews rather quickly by clueless reviewers and players that probably expected something else from this, I've seen some creators on YouTube that misunderstood the type of game they ended up in and had to do to something else as it wasn't for them. They did apologize and just returned to making content with games they were familiar with so no big deal. I cannot even call Knock-knock a game as its more of an experience to me, even the starting screen states the same things I've said so far. You are never explicitly told what you are supposed to do, only the basic, rough, broad explanations on what is going on in this world with everything else left for you to interpret which I am currently doing with the review right now, if you can call this a review so far. It is a horror game but it doesn't mean like its any other in the genre, as other games tend to go with a lot of gore, screamers and other types of stuff. Its.. very, very subjective. I love both the graphical and audio designs, the art style feels warped but also normal at the same time and the audio.. its one of the better if not the best I have experienced- there aren't exactly any soundtracks or chase songs, at best the only thing you'd have would be audio cues. You cannot hear anyone walk aside of yourself, sometimes you may hear someone breathing, something being dropped or.. just random noises at literally random points. (although some sounds are scripted to play like a very subtle warning that there is something with you in the same room) And the soft white noise that plays all the time during dream sequences to underline the dead silence.. feels so good. There are spoilers below which are about my total interpretation of the "game", my feelings and endings. Its an experience about Paranoia and Depression from what I seem to understand- locking yourself inside your home, fearing the outdoors so badly that you start dreaming of your other fears coming and wandering around indoors, forgetting how your own home feels like and forgetting yourself. The trees have eyes and faces that stare at you in the background. There are 2 (3) endings one of which the Main Character locks and barricades himself from the outside world, being unable to live with their fear. In the other ending the character walks outside during the day, overcoming their fears and being able to live a normal life. Nothing is specifically said or confirmed, so I'm just speculating based on very short cutscenes. I don't know if its because I have experience in both of those Mental Health problems or not, but it might show why some people just don't see the point of this game, as only broken people can understand other broken people and relate to some degree, whereas "normal" people cannot do that. I'm glad I found this because Ice-Pick Lodge has become my favourite developer since then and gave me huge interest in the ways they make games and the references to Russian traditions they seem to use a lot.
