Game has been abandoned for a couple years or so, there are many rumors about what happened to the dev who suddenly disappeared. Very sad because this is a dream game. Essentially, you have an open world RPG that is truly open world and truly RPG. It goes beyond some pre-established, static, fantasy world setting/story by actually allowing the NPCs, and the player, create all that themselves. As far a story, there are exiles, the player and autonomous NPCs, who arrive by ship on an huge island (it's probably roughly the size of Skyrim) and are dumped there to do whatever they want. Each day, more arrive. The NPCs are autonomous and will set out to build their own homes and settlements, which can turn into villages, towns, and full on huge walled cities. Some build their own shops. Others hunt or gather, others might build homes and rent them out to other NPCs. There are NPCs who choose to become bandits and build their own stuff. Others might opt to farm, explore, or work for a town as a guard or administrator. All the NPCs are named and you can interact with them in any way, from trading, training, or doing quests for them. They have their own needs/wants, and seek them out. The player is plopped into a world that lives and grows on it's own. This results in a very high level of immersion. Imagine if in Skyrim or Gothic games, the NPCs were 100% autonomous and went out to build their own homes, settlements, adventures, professions. Eventually, the game reaches a point where there hundreds or thousands of NPCs (you can adjust the overall population cap in the game settings) in full-on cities, becoming their own kingdom and engage in diplomacy and/or war with each other. Before the Dev vanished, this part of the game he was starting to implement. What is there now is janky and incomplete, which is a shame. He was also starting to implement "families" too but doesn't seem to work really. The player can do all the things the NPCs can do. You can build a home, build a shop, or crafter (blacksmith, fletcher, etc.), specialize in whatever you want, go chop down trees, plant crops/farm, explore ruins, explore mines, start your own settlement and grow it, hire NPCs to be guards, your soldiers, administrators, shopkeepers, you name it. That includes becoming a bandit. Or be a total murderhobo and try to wipe out a settlement or take it over (if you take out the settlement leader, you can end up becoming its new leader with access given to settlement management settings/abilities). If anyone has played Space Rangers 2 or S.T.A.L.K.E.R., there's similarities in that the world goes on with or without the player, NPCs will fight each other, engage in their own PVE, loot stuff, etc. The graphics are serviceable, with some good fx and lighting, like I remember hanging out in a city I was visiting and just chilling to the ambience. The island is huge, I think it takes about 30min. to cross it. On the downside, the game is janky, buggy, has features that are incomplete. Worse, is that the Dev, who was actively working on it, suddenly disappeared. Last I recall is he posted having a computer hardware issue and couldn't work on the game until he got a new one or got it fixed, something like that. He was actively providing support, in the middle of updates until POOF! Gone. A big rumor was that he was drafted into the Russian-Ukraine war and didn't make it out of that. Who really knows. Since the Dev is MIA, and game is incomplete, buggy, many have started giving it a bad review. I Recommend it if you want to see something very different than most other games out there. This has huge potential, still does. Some in the community have discussed trying to find a way to finish it on their own, for example. I've had a blast playing this game. It was on track to be the ultimate RPG game/simulator. Many felt it too and why to this day people pop in on the forums to see if there is any news. 2-3yrs later. Therefore, there's no reason to downvote the game if one loved it so much for it has been up to the point the Dev went MIA. Rather, pay respects instead. Great example of what could happen when a game is in early access. Will the Dev ever return one day to see it through? Like many others, I SURE HOPE SO! But knowing the situation, which I feel needed to be shared, it's up to the reader to roll the dice and get the game as-is knowing it's state.

This game could be so insanely addicting. It's already a lot of fun, but it's missing so much that would make it great. I do recommend it for what it has now, but you have to understand that what you see is what you get and there may never be another update again. Unfortunately the Developer posted the last update in september 2021 with no communication on whether or not they're going to keep working on the game, but this concept is an absolute DREAM. A procedural world where NPCs build and maintain settlements, you can build your own and NPCs can join your settlement and construct their own houses and businesses, but outside of that, there's unfortunately not much to it in it's current state.

Do not be swayed by these nerds complaining the game is abandoned. What is here is good. If you think the concept looks interesting and think you'd enjoy it, you most likely will. Let's not forget the game is only $10 and a lot of the negative reviews have 20-50+ hours (that many hours on a $10 game ain't bad imo). Leaving negative reviews SOLELY because the dev is rumored to have lost his life after being drafted into the Ukraine military. The concept is insanely ambitious and works exactly as you'd expect. A true sandbox rpg experience. Hope for the future You could also look on the community page for Kingdoms and find a solo developer working on his own game heavily inspired by Kingdoms. They provide a link to their discord in the comments where they are taking feedback from players and CONSTANTLY showing progress. Do not fret, this ambitious concept of a game is not dead, although the currently unnamed project is still very early in development, so I highly recommend checking this one out while you wait.

Want a single player survival game with Ai "players"? then this is it. Build your settlement and increase your renown and settlers will come to be your serfs, assign them jobs like ambassador to manage diplomacy or declare war and general to lead and recruit soldiers. graphics is on the low end but understandable since theres 1000's of ai roaming and building. The Dev/Devs are located in Ukraine, hopefully our devs are safe in that war. i hope they may return to developing this game safely and soundly.
