Kill the Crows is an intense western-themed, top-down arena shooter. Runs are fast and furious with one-hit kills for both the player and the enemies (including bosses).¹ The entire game is set in a single ruined town where swarms of enemies rush towards Isabella, our bloodthirsty gunslinger, on her mission of vengeance. Kill the Crows is a skill-based game , and as such it may not be for everyone. Fortunately, Kill the Crows never feels overly frustrating when a run ends and restarts are very quick. A player can swiftly change out their gear loadouts (and level modifiers) and can get right back into the action within seconds! Despite the single environment and a handful of enemy types, the team behind the game did such a wonderful job that it doesn't ever feel too repetitive. The pixel art is good and enemy types are easily distinguishable from one another so that priority threats like sharpshooters can be quickly identified and taken down. Shootouts are fierce and impactful as enemies are thrown back by one deliberate bullet after another from Isabella's revolver and amplified by superb use of audio. The various showdowns are ever eye-catching as our cowgirl heroine mows down waves of enemies by fanning her revolver in a deadly display of unadulterated marksmanship -- it's a downright joy to witness. :) In addition, the developer/publisher team have been very receptive to player comments and have worked diligently to squash any bugs that players have encountered. As such, Kill the Crows runs very smoothly and is practically bug-free. At the time of this review, the issue with The Crimson Moon Rising achievement has been recently resolved so achievement hunters are now able to acquire all the achievements for the game. For the price of a small meal, Kill the Crows is a thoroughly enjoyable arena shooter. It's a game I'm sure to revisit again and again. Easily recommended! Give it a try! Although there is an item that can be unlocked that allows a player to survive a single hit during a run, the game is no less intense.

It feels like there's this specific little genre of top-down wave survival shooters coevolving alongside the Vampire-Survivor-like games, that prefer one-hit kills, sidegrade unlocks, and generally eschew mid-run progression. Games like Akane, Hayai, and this. I'm a big fan, and so far this is a great addition. A really cool addition is in the unlockable difficulty modifiers - both straight up difficulty levels, and more game-warping options like skulls in Halo or artefacts in Risk of Rain. The difficulty level option is really nice addition that lets you get more quickly into the action once you've settled into it, and I've already found one of the skulls encouraging me to explore different options. It's also both really cheap and has a demo, give it a look.

Very fun wave shooter with a fair amount of build variety. Really quick bursts of just-one-more-try and unlocking the different gear as you go is a treat and really feeds into a cyclic game loop of, play, unlock stuff, play another round to use the new stuff, and loop. If ya got a few bucks to gamble, Kill The Crows is a very safe bet.

Not enough women go on bloody crusades of revenge against the criminals that wronged them. I'm glad the devs are taking the 1st steps in fixing society. Fr tho, I don't have an hour of game when writing this but I can already tell that it's more than worth the already cheap price of admission. Props to the devs for the quick, simple and addicting gameplay + a fantastic artstyle and pixel animations!

For $5 you get a pretty good experience. The combat flow is fun and all of the enemies do a great job at applying different types of pressure on the player without feeling to overbearing. I really like the art of chaining slowdown kills for the free reloads and pressure clearing. Ultimately I walk away from this experience hoping the developers make a more fleshed out version down the line. Something longer and more level oriented instead of wave based. It would also work well in the same format as Hyper Light Drifter. Lots and lots of potential here.
