Decent open world game that still holds up pretty well to this day. Remember to turn off "decal" and "bokeh filter" in graphics settings to avoid game crash.

At almost 1000 sq km, the map for this game is MASSIVE If you're a fan of open-world exploration, explosions, or both, chances are you already have this game. It's kind of like a B-movie, but the story is very short and is gated by a Chaos mechanic. Story isn't the reason you play a game like this. Rather, I play it for the satisfying explosions, funny physics, and the freedom to explore via parachute and grappling hook, or car, bike, boat, plane or even helicopter. I've played it 3 times now. Hard mode on PSN and PC, and more recently on casual on PC, and I love coming back to blow things the hell up. __________________ A note on performance. I started out my casual run at 2560 resolution and most settings maxxed, but after a few hot weather days I found the game was crashing pretty regularly so I had to dumb things down. In hindsight, I think the game had similar problems the last time I played on PC, and it had crashing problems on PSN too. After a few tries at dumbing down various settings, I ended up with a semi-stable game that would run for a long time - but everything was on low, and most checks were off. I also ended up running 1920 in a window. All this after a re-installation as I had a problem with most buildings and enemies only loading as transparencies, and the grapple would not connect to them. So when you start playing don't be fooled by how well it all seems to be going - it's worth dumbing everything down from the get go. _______________ As fun as the game can be when things are going well and you find your rhythm, it isn't perfect. If you're in a helicopter and shoot and destroy one tiny object, you INSTANTLY get an attack chopper teleport in and start hammering your own aircraft with enemy fire. Regardless of difficulty, enemy numbers never seem to end in any sort of firefight either. As you progress, enemy alarm levels gradually upgrade to a maximum of 5, and you'll be surprised how fast it can fill up just by running around a military base picking up collectables. Races are a personal favourite of mine, and there are plane, boat, car, and even falling races scattered all over the map. Some of them are awesome fun, but sliding around on ice was a bit wimpy. Also, plane controls for banking (better turning by tilting the whole plane's rotation) seemed sluggish - but I didn't fuss over the controls and just went with my PS4 controller, even though the game thought I had an Xbox controller. Physics are fun to mess with - especially with the grapple. One of the earliest missions has you trying to escape pursuers - you almost don't even have to fire any guns, thanks to the ability to tether two objects together. Enemy cars would suddenly flip out when they found they were attached to the road. ___________ 100% completion is almost impossible, seeing as how not every item is tracked on the map, but some completionists may jump on the task - with so many different collectables and things to destroy, the time you'll invest into the game makes every dollar worth it.

There are 4 of these games. This is the one you should pay attention to. Coming back to this game after having played the 3rd and 4th installments is truly a breath of fresh air. While Just Cause 3 modernized the series and brought lots of welcome little QoL improvements to the table, Just Cause 4 effectively took the least appealing aspects of JC3 and, rather than dispense with them and mingle the best of 2 and 3, leaned further into them, driving a death nail into the series in the process. Avalanche went the wrong direction with the series, and it started with the changes to the physics and animation. JC2 is so wonderful for largely the same reason that the violence in Tom and Jerry is wonderful. It's the physics, sound effects, and the sense of real weight and momentum behind everything that makes it so viscerally satisfying and fun. JC3 and, more so, 4 felt very loose and floaty, which immediately breaks immersion. That was my main gripe with the sequels to this game, but there is a laundry list of other unfortunate design choices that were made that I'm certain others have pointed out. All that to say, this is the best one. Absolutely one of the highest value-for-money games you can buy. Most of the time you can buy it for less than a bag of pork rinds. Heck, you can buy this whole series for peanuts. Go ahead. It's not like you can't extract at least SOME joy out of JC4. Play it with your friends. Pass the controller around. Get it on your Steam Deck. This series is perfect for mobile fun.

"How u gonna push buttons when your fingers are broken?" - Rico Rodriguez Sum-Up In-depth analysis further down. 🟩 Pros 🟥 Cons • Expansive, well-detailed world. • A large variety of vehicles. • Destructible environment, for the most part. • Great for blowing off steam after a busy day. • Gorgeous visuals for it's time. Great attention to detail in many areas.. • Side-quests are fairly interesting, but not perfect. • Poor story. • Boring completion requirements. Otherwise, great. • Repetitive tasks and destroying stuff. • Sudden crashes, require fix by turning off some settings. 🟨 Bugs & Issues‎ 🔧 Specs ⚙️ Settings & FPS The game runs well on many systems. It does have a crash problem and you're required to turn off decals. That will permanently fix the sudden crashes and allow you to play smoothly. Some have claimed there's an issue to 100% complete the game and require a mod. I've not tested. The Steam achievements for 100% was good enough for me. • CPU: i7-12700K • RAM: 32GB DDR4 • GPU: 3080 10GB • SD: SSD • RES: 1440p Settings: Ultra FPS: 75+ 🌌 Content & Replay Value To complete this game you're required a good 100+ hours to explore, destroy and 100% 75% of the map. It's a tedious task, but can be done. There's no replay value and you're only required to play this game on higher difficulty, but you'd best try this game on lower difficulty first as it can be rather difficult. 💵 Is it worth buying? Yes. It's a good game to dive in and explore the series. I have played the first one, but in the 2nd one you can really tell there's a lot more to be explored. 🎮 Steam Deck Compatibility Works well. It's a bit difficult to get used to the controls, but if you're used to controller, then you'll have no issues whatsoever. 🧾 Verdict: Good [url=https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2761784706] Rating Chart Here I liked the game for what it was. I hated the completion part, therefore, this is my final verdict for what the game offers. It's repetitive, mundane and tedious to complete, so I don't recommend it unless you're willing to go through the struggle. Aside from that, it's a pretty good game. Offers what some open-world games have failed. [quote=TalePlay] Check our [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/38352719/] Curator Page for short reviews. In-depth ⚔️ Gameplay & Exploration: Just Cause 2 is an open-world action-adventure game where you play as Rico Rodriguez, a special American agent tasked to hold control over the Panau islands by liberating them islands. You do this in the good old American fashion, blowing up everything that stands in your way, creating chaos, and controlling each point on the map. The gameplay is divided into a few things. taking control over villages, bases, airports, and other areas of interest, doing side-missions for your 3 allies that each try to take control of the map, killing important enemy leaders and playing with different vehicles, collecting items, and exploring the vast and complex islands. The islands are gorgeous, despite the fact that this game came a decade ago. It still holds up very well the visuals and the physics are fairly good too, making it feel like a rather good game to play. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3168185487 😄 Fun: It really depends on what side of the barrel are you looking at from. If you're here to beat the story, it's a better and fun experience to have. If you're here to complete, then you better look elsewhere, because this game doesn't value your time, enjoyment, or patience. 🏞 Visuals & Presentation: Great looking game for its age. I normally look for mods for games that are fairly old to feel a bit better while playing, but to be honest, I didn't feel I needed this game. I think you'll find a lot of stunning views, impressive achievements made by the developers, and a lot of love put in the world. The cinematics are trying to portray a James Bond feel to it, and it nails it in some parts. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2855777188 🔊 Sound & Voice-Acting: The music is the weakest part of this game. It's non-existent in vehicles and very repetitive in the world. Something I wish the game did better. Dialogues and voice-acting is not that impressive either, even for the main characters. It felt a bit forced and lifeless. 📖 Story & Writing: The story revolves around Rico discovering the secrets behind Panau Islands, as he and his team try to take a special role in liberating, infiltrating and taking down the leaders of Panau one by one. New and old characters are introduced in the story, with some interesting events. I did like the James Bond feel of the story, but it was rather dull from transitioning from Cinematics to the game and such. It was hard to find the characters believable in some parts. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3171155376 🧵 Length & Difficulty: It's a humongous game to explore. One of the largest maps I've ever played. I didn't think anything could beat Ubisoft, but it seems to me it did. It's a large and lengthy game. Although you can beat it a lot sooner, you're required to gather chaos, by destroying as much as possible in order to progress. It's not a difficult game to complete, but it's very mundane and tedious, making it more of a drag than anything else. ⭕️Verdict: Just Cause 2 is a great improvement overall over the first game, with stunning visuals, impressive physics, fun mechanics, and a gorgeous world to explore. Although it's not perfect, it's a fun game to blow steam, play at your own pace, and dive into the world that has much to show and tell you.

Closing almost 14 years after its release, in my opinion JC2 remains the pinnacle of the series to this day. Later games in the series failed to capture the fun and charisma of the characters in the same way. I have more than 250 hours of play, and the desire to keep playing for the simple pleasure of playing never ends (I would love to see a remastered version). Maybe it's the environment created for this small dictatorship, but there's nothing cooler than traveling through this open world creating chaos and being hunted in a crazy way by the army, while there were clichéd speeches from soldiers or fictional government announcements on radio broadcasts.
