Judge Dredd: Dredd vs. Death is the pinnacle of a six out of ten ps2 game. It's trashy, it's janky, it's generic and it's actually a decent amount of fun. The basic, fairly barren levels and junky futuristic dystopian aesthetic coupled with the generic weapons, are reminiscent of Deus Ex: Invisible War. Yet through all of this, the dark doomed world and humor capture the world of Judge Dredd. Though the jump button sucks and you can't take screenshots during cutscenes, the game isn't very buggy (aside from some questionable pathfinding from companion npcs), the shooting is solid and the weapon selection contains a handful of fun guns like a sniper rifle/machine gun, a tommygun, a solid shotgun, a very fun grenade launcher and of course Dredd's classic gun with 5 different bullet types. Additionally the music was alright. The campaign is short and sweet, containing mechanics like enemies who surrender, perps to be arrested, and a legality meter that will send Judges after you if you go down to 0. Exploring the ridiculous maps like the Smokatorium and watching the at first boring plot that goes from 0-100 very quickly are fun. My main qualm is that the game leans too heavily into generic tropes like vampire enemies and zombies; there could have been a bit more variety. But for the short length it makes sense. Outside of the campaign there is a multiplayer gamemode and an arcade mode. I was only able to try the latter but I wasn't very impressed. This game is like junkfood, it's cheap, it ain't very good for ya, but most bites taste pretty good. Get it on sale if you like Judge Dredd or PS2 FPS games.

worked for me on Windows 10. Personally, I think this is one of the most entertaining and coolest comic-based games out there, the atmosphere is futuristic and dystopian and they could make it very beautifully with lots of gorgeous pre-rendered backgrounds. definitely play this if you are a fan of older FPS games and based.

Short game but fun if you enjoy the comics. Always enjoyed graphics from this era and mega city one looks nice. Not too many enemy varieties. Mostly becomes a zombie shooter. After the horrors of the atomic wars redbull seems to be one of the only companies that survives, Dredd is clearly not a fan of the in game advertisement. "This rampant consumerism makes my skin crawl."

you can arrest people for being too fat, 10/10 In terms of a actual review Judge Dredd: DvD is a pretty decent game but it comes from a odd time where Devs seemed to have this obsession with giving you a bunch of toys but little ammo for them or letting you only use them in very specific circumstances. The lawgiver for instance, a gun you can change firemodes on at will. you don't get very many options with it due to ammo shortages and will find yourself making use of the various firearms bad guys drop for your taste of variety, a unique choice i guess but part of the schtick of Judge Dredd was always how the Lawgiver gave an answer for any situation but sacrifices for game balance i suppose. This isn't really a bad thing but i feel like it really limited one of the core experiences you'd want being a street judge. Presentation wise the game does a good job depicting mega city, at least when you're outside and get to experience it. Theres many a level with boring corridors and interior cells though not all are bad, the shopping mall for example is a shining exception. Gameplay wise its a straightforward shooter with some fun sub systems like the ability to analyze and judge civilians and perps and act accordingly to their crimes. If i had a big gripe it would probably be the crux of the story, i never liked Judge Death and his cronies in the comics. Found them a bit too mystical for what is otherwise a somewhat grounded (but very silly at times) setting with them having straight up ghost powers and such but as far as big bad evil guys to have as villains that stand out you can't really shoot much bigger than them. If theres any big issues with the game its dated controls and hardware compatibility issues which fortunately the steam release did try and alleviate but some still persist (namely odd NPC behaviors and getting stuck in or even falling through levels) but usually a reload of the level solves this...usually.

Great to play this game for the first time in almost 20yrs. Always enjoyed the Judge Dredd franchise, and I think this game is a great edition to that. Played very well on the Steam Deck
