Not sure what is crazier: that I'm playing an all-but-in-name sequel to Rare's N64 classic Blast Corps in 2024 or that the ONE developer (really? really really?) who created this hadn't heard of Blast Corps until people mentioned it, but has then taken inspiration from it and further improved the game. The Circle of Life, lads.

The physics are super cool and really impressive. The large selection of different vehicles and different ways to destroy everything are really fun to mess with too. Just a big, fun, physics-based, destructive sandbox, with plenty of tools. And a good portion of the missions and challenges are even great. There's a lot to like However, all of the "transport these boxes" missions are ridiculously bad and do not belong in the game. No idea what they were thinking there. Definitely not what someone would want to play this game for. Also, the later levels (islands 8 & 9) get a bit frustrating, often giving you a really shitty car and some annoying turrets that you can't fight back against. It's just a boring headache that kinda misses what makes the game fun cuz you're having to rush the objective without getting to enjoy the level. Super disappointing to anyone wanting to 100% the game. Despite these 2 faults i'd still recommend cuz the rest of the game really is a lot of fun and the destruction physics are top tier if you're into that. The dev is also super receptive to feedback and pays attention to the community with updates and responses as you can see below. Gotta support great devs like this

I'm a white-bearded old man who has played games for a long, long time. Blast Corps is a super unique and awesome game by Rare for the Nintendo 64. It is a game so unique that not many (if any) games have come close to replicating it's essence. This game is not Blast Corps, but it sure kicks the same neurons into gear in my brain. It may be the first time that has happened. It feels like it's own thing, but I'll be damned if there isn't more than a few nods to Blast Corps in both design and presentation. That's a very cool thing. Great little game.

Basically Besieged 2. But replace the dev with an industry veteran in the most leading destruction based gameplay ever to exist (Red Faction series) that was smart enough to jump ship from Volition since they abandoned their only good IP. A very solid game that is being injected with illegal substances from the dev until it hits 1.0 Only note of a small con is that you have to unlock parts as you complete. This kind of limits creativity at early levels. I guess the reason is to prevent from making a wonder machine that does everything from the start perhaps. It's still just a small con so not that important.
