I wish more games would be like this one: A condensed experience without filler content. I rather have a 4h-game than a 40h-game which makes me collect x items or sends me to randomly generated "quests". Even more surprising: In its short duration, It made me care about an NPC - some other games don't achieve this goal with x times the playtime and cutscenes. Very well done! :) Yes, it has weaknesses but especially when listening to the developers commentary (which can be enabled in the options menu, even when you didn't finish the game yet), I understand more and more why the game isn't perfect but I also understand what a huge undertaking and achievement it was to make and finish the game. Big respect! Looking forward to part II!

BIOSHOCK meets DISHONORED, with a lovely hint of FALLOUT 3 thrown in for good measure. You might also reminisce about the good ole days of Halo 2 while playing this. This game is for all the people out there who can't get enough of these games and want to vibe on them again. I can't believe I got this game for only $5.99 on sale. If I had known it would be giving me these vibes, I would have been happy to pay $20 for it. But that's just me, as there are some downsides too. It is a short game, but nothing like the people who claim it is only a 4 hour game. Who buys a game with such depth and immersive feels and powers through it like the daily grind? Let me ask you, do you rush through every moment of the life you have been given just to get to the end of it sooner? Then why would you rush through the life you've chosen to buy and experience? Something is seriously wrong when someone says this game took them 4 hours to complete. I took about 12 because I stopped to smell the pixels a lot. This game really took me places. Another downside is the terrible ending that left far too many questions unanswered. The biggest downside for me was the really horrible enemy AI. It's SO BAD. You can crawl under a breakable wooden board blocking a door and you're completely safe. You can simply shut a door and they don't know what to do. You can jump up on the metal congregates and they can't reach you. It's like enemies were added to draw the game out longer and were just an afterthought. There were some other positives too. The voice actors were really great. Especially the voice actor of Nora. She conveys true stress patterns in her voice and her acting is superb as a result. The Library is a totally unique experience that gives you such an eerie feeling. I haven't experienced anything like that in a game before. Give this game a try. I don't think you could possibly be disappointed if you love the above mentioned games like I do, and are able to get it for $5.99! I might hesitate to suggest it for other people at anything over that, simply because of the shortness and terrible AI.

INDUSTRIA is a very easy game for me to recommend. But in many ways it's a surprisingly hard game to explain. Because on paper, it seems to go against the grain of so many trends in the indie FPS space, and that's exactly what makes it so fascinating. A lot of shooters are loud . It's a genre that loves to compete with itself. Who can be the fastest, the most explosive, the most over the top? And make no mistake, I love ripping and tearing with the best of them. But it's important to explore what can be done in the opposite direction. Can an FPS allow itself to be quiet? Small? Personal? Contemplative? Subtle? This is where INDUSTRIA excels. It's no secret that INDUSTRIA takes a lot of cues from Half-Life. But one of the biggest, and to me most important, is one that sometimes gets overlooked. So many of my favorite memories of HL2 were those tiny moments where you simply found yourself existing in City 17. The connective tissue between larger fights that let you take a second to soak in the setting and immerse yourself in the feeling of Being There. This is the feeling that INDUSTRIA focuses on, to a degree that I'm not sure I've seen in any other shooter. To be clear, this is no walking sim. There's plenty of combat against a solid array of robotic threats, with an arsenal that all feels punchy and useful. And yet I hesitate to say that combat is the focus like it is in so many other shooters. Instead it's here to serve the experience of exploring the abandoned city of Hakavik. The combat is now the connective tissue that drives scratching the surface of how the city fell, and how you came to be there, and the mysteries behind questions you don't even know to ask yet. This is a game with many recognizable influences, influences the devs readily acknowledge. And yet strangely, it might secretly be one of the most unique shooters I've ever played. Because it focuses so intently on reveling in the tiny, quiet moments that so many of it's contemporaries would skate right over. To quote Alien: "I admire it's purity." There's no gimmick here. No bloat or feature creep. It's the narrative FPS refined to arguably it's simplest and most direct form. And I can't remember the last time I saw a game confident enough to be that. The indie FPS space is overflowing with incredible shooters right now. But I can think of very few that are doing what INDUSTRIA is doing, to the degree that it commits to it. While it's fair to say that it may not appeal to everyone as a result, we always need games to explore possibilities outside the conventional wisdom like that. And as someone who is always on board to see this slower, more thoughtful side of the FPS explored, it was a joy to play through. This is a game to vibe with. To chill with. And I hope we see more like it. (Also, as one last bonus point, any game that includes some form of Developer Commentary mode deserves a special shout out. It's such an underutilized idea and it always makes me happy to see.)

I'm sure it's great if you're young! I like everything about it, but it's just too hard. I had 4 hours at it but just kept running out of health and I only ever found ONE health vial. Until there's an "old man" option, I cant cope. (fingers crossed) EDIT: Had another attempt and completed, either I got better .. or it got less hard. as I said, I like everything about it :)
