This is just a fun beat the clock get better at processes and research. Hard is really hard to beat easy is really easy to beat but will give you a good idea of how the game is played. Normal will take you a while to beat but there are ways to beat it.

THE classic 4x strategy game. Way ahead of its time in cinematic, graphics, and design of the interface. The game just feels so good to play. The campaigns are where it really shines. Map is randomly generated. Events periodically occur, also partially random. This makes for a unique experience every time. I've played this game over and over, both in the past and recently and it always feels fresh. Space battles look and feel incredible. Ground battles are less good but still fun. Colony management is interesting and you can be as involved as you want to be with it or just set them all to autobuild if you find the process tedious, which is a perfectly adequate way to play. Diplomacy is kinda meh but once you figure out how it works you can definitely work the system. Many espionage options in the game. You can easily go through an entire campaign without using any one element. This allows you to al la carte build your own path to victory and gives a lot in variety in how any given situation can be approached. So much replayability just from that alone. Brought to you by a talented Hungarian developer team, this game still holds up today and I highly recommend checking it out, as a fan of the genre or even a total newbie. I will say Hard difficulty is not balanced very well and you are pretty much required to play in a way that conquers the map well before the story events play out. If it's your first playthrough, definitely play normal or easy so you can really enjoy this gem of a game. Music is so good, really gets the vibe going.

Yes it can still work in windows 11. If you have a laptop, then go to system/display/graphics , choose "add an app" then browse for ig2.exe. (Because it will not automatically appear in the app list, you have to browse then add it yourself) Once you have added it to the list select it and choose the option "use high performance" instead of "let windows decide" After that it should work. No more black screen, Gamewise, it's still a good game. A little old looking but not too hard to figure out what to do.

This game in 1999 blew my mind, so far ahead of its time, you got space battles, you got ground battles, you got colony building and management, you got ship design, you got space stations, you got spies, diplomacy and the option to marry a pirates daughter for some early game merc ships. Oh, and you can choose between a few races for different styles of play... It is 700MB in size, but this game is big, the star map is impressive. The only reason I want a remake of this is that when your fleets get too big, space battles are auto resolved, this is the latter parts of the game, the concept was well beyond the limitations of computers back then. Steam says 14 hours on record, that was a nostalgia play through, which I lost, twice haha, pre steam tracking my game play, several hundred hours, probably in between some command and conquer dial up sessions. The campaign is not that long, but, you lose, you lose, and you will lose. You may not know you have lost, and fruitlessly carry on with no way to win, but it feels good and that loss drives you to try again. It is in no way impossible, but if you crack this on first play through, I tip my hat! If you are a stellaris fan, it is worth getting just to see what started it all really.
