Some of the best movement I've seen so far and the gunplay feels really good too. The ui makes it look a bit unfinished tho.

I came here expecting yet another boomer shooter, and instead I got... uh... he-man rocket jump bonanza arena roguelike? By the power of numbskull of whatever. No, really, the final boss is a giant skull. Impaler uses the boomer shooter genre as a starting point and then just kinda flies off the handle and does its own thing. So if you're looking for a simple doomy boomer shooter (why is it not called doomer shooter smh), this is not it - and you can see in some negative reviews that people generally expect it to be; you won't have much fun here if you do. So what is it then? In boomer shooters, you use your weapons to fight. Here you have three main ways of laying waste to your enemies, and to get anywhere you have to use all 3 of them in tandem. Your chosen weapon (there's 8, but you can use only one for the run), your impaler spikes, and smashing into the ground from above. Out of these, the third one is the trickiest but also the most satisfying one; but let's talk about the first two for a sec. There is no ammo. Instead, your weapon overheats after just a few shots, and it doesn't do that much damage anyway (without upgrades, that is) - but it's reliable, and even the short range weapons have decent reach. Then there's the spikes. They're a bit harder to use, and they also overheat if you spam them - and obviously, they come from the ground, so hitting a flying enemy with one isn't easy; but they're pretty satisfying to use, and perhaps most importantly, enemies killed with spikes drop health pickups! Lemme smash But the most important use for the spikes is essentially rocket jumping. You fire a spike under yourself - you do not take damage from that - and if you time your jump right, you'll be launched high into the air. You also have a double jump and there's a wall jump of sorts. So there's plenty of options for gaining high, uh, ground. From there, once you've gained enough vertical speed, hitting the ground will cause massive damage to whatever enemy you land on, plus you'll scatter a bunch of shrapnel-like stakes in front of you. This is your most powerful attack, and the preferred way of dealing with groups of enemies - especially since it also yields health pickups! Don't get too comfy So you'd think that you can just spike jump your way through the game? No. There are several types of enemies, and every single one is strong against a particular playstyle, and this is why you need to constantly adapt and switch things around. That's also where the upgrades come into play, and you'll need them - the enemies will keep getting stronger. Among other things. I won't get too much into this here, but the game rewards mobility and skillful play through the system of offerings. Ways to earn extra gold and health, basically. This adds another layer to your battle strategy, as you'll constantly want to be on the lookout for these offerings and adjust your next move accordingly. Very satisfying, once you get the hang of things. There's more? Once you're done with the campaign, so the main roguelike mode, there's also a collectathon mode and harder difficulties, if you're hungry for more impaling. I thought I'm done with the game once I beat the final boss... but to be honest, I'll probably go back to it at some point. It's very stimulating. Look. It's cheap. It's fun. It's different than most things out there. What else could you want. Anime girls? Alright, you got me there... [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/42922988/]Curator page

this game is really fun, i like that the impaling mechanic isn't something you're forced to utilised and instead is a cooler and more sufficient way of killing enemies. only complaint is that healing is a HASSLE in this game, enemies when impaled drop the least amount of health you can possibly ask for, and it doesn't help that you're being bombarded by enemies from all angles. but anyways it's probably just a skill issue from my end, it's a really fun game i recommend it

One of the best AFPS roguelites hybrid games on Steam right now. Streamlined, dead simple in scope, and well-considered design elements make Impaler an absurdly enjoyable $3 to spend. I love how the feeling of weapon-switching is nicely packaged into an accessible right-click (impaler) that is so versatile it can occupy several roles. (defense, offense, utility). This mechanic is a great way for someone who isn't a quake player to get a taste of the satisfaction that comes with games that are heavy on weapon-switching. This game does not get too far in over it's own head either, like some other "replayable" roguelites do. If you like DOOM or Quake, you'll probably appreciate this. (it even gots Ogres in it) If you haven't played those titles, this still makes for a very accessible and enjoyable place to start.
