Amazing array of aircraft for $9.99, practically everything you could ever need in a WW2-Post war flight sim.

I remember playing this years ago, It truly is an amazing game for the price. Its weirdly nostalgic. And i love everything about it. Only bad part, is that it takes a while to work on your prefered controls. But the graphics are not bad. And are in fact, very good for the time period this was first made.

Still the best combat simulator in 2024, and still going with some community! 2024 graphics config To configure it to max graphics and sound, drop the conf.ini from here: https://github.com/raven-intheclouds/il2-1946-dotfiles Multiplayer servers If you are a newcomer, I recommend "JaegerOne", one of the Steam vanilla unmodded ones, which is more than enough. See it here: https://www.gs4u.net/en/s/319892.html http://jagerone.weebly.com/ http://il2.com.ru/en/server.php?id=71 For a list of known servers, majority modded, see here: https://www.gs4u.net/en/il2/ http://il2.com.ru/en/links.php Apart from that list, communities spawn add-hoc servers to join the specific event when it happens. Review Good [*] Contrary to others, it runs great and in a potato. [*] It doesn't go for full fidelity (everything modeled perfectly, clickable, etc). But it doesn't need to. It has a great game loop: one can apply combat flight principles, do multiplayer and coordinate, do complex missions. [*] Provides a great list of content: planes, missions, campaigns. Newer simulators can't deal with formations of 100s of B-17s. [*] AI is GREAT. They know about all the usual concepts (see https://www.youtube.com/c/TheAirCombatTutorialLibrary). They know ~40 different maneuvers and the trade-offs of their machines: they try to go into parallel or spiral scissors to have you pass them, know how to boom and zoom, they go into engine economy mode and climbing mode, etc etc. On newer simulators (like IL-2 Battle Of Stalingrad) they only know about flying in circles. [*] Good campaigns. [*] While vanilla is great and maybe all you need, there's also great mods that make the flight dynamic models more realist while keeping compatiblity with vanilla planes, missions and campaigns (see HSFX, and its HSFX Expert Dode). Beware, other mainstream mods are just buggy, even if newer. [*] Community still makes events from time to time. [*] Documentation of plane characteristics, features in the game folder pdfs. [*] Supports TrackIR or Opentrack. [*] Works fine on Linux, Proton, with Opentrack. Bad [*] Small community, split into incompatible mods, and some people to avoid. [*] Vanilla version only supports up to 4 joystick devices (USB HID), and 32 buttons each. Workaround: remember to disconnect joysticks if you need, or split them into several "virtual joysticks" if they have more than 32 buttons each (via joystick gremlin or configuring their specific firmware).
