Genuinely the most incredible story I have ever experienced. No book, movie, or any other type of media I have interacted with has made a story this complex and compelling to me as this game. There are so many novel and unexpected twists and the characters are so interesting. This game is so inclusive with so many different types of representation and it feels very natural. All the characters are very unique and have very cool backstories and development. The enemies all feel very unique and interesting. Every boss fight there is something very new and it is fun to figure out how to counter the new moves. The progression of the game feels very well defined. I never had to struggle with "what the heck am I supposed to do now". The fighting style being turn based combat makes it very accessible to me as a disabled gamer. The combat is a lot more about strategy / like a puzzle as it is turn based.

I'm usually someone who plays games for the story, so it was interesting that Ikenfell's biggest selling point (for me, at least) was the interesting combat system. To my surprise, the story was actually really good, far better than I was expecting, the trailer doesn't make it look all too interesting but once Pertisia joined my party, things REALLY started amping up. I don't write reviews often, I'm not really sure what to put here, but I do have to state that while the gameplay felt boring in the ikenfell grounds and northern lockup (largely due to the lack of enemy variety in these areas) It is fantastic everywhere else and easily the best part of the game.

Honestly, this is probably the best game I have played and will play all year. This LGBTQIA-positive and Mental Health-positive RPG oozes style. From an incredible soundtrack to lovable characters to a combat system that feels like the Tactics version of Super Mario RPG, this game is just one amazing moment after another. If the dev team set out to make an experience that all RPG fans should try, then they succeeded with flying colors. And as far as setting is concerned, it's far more inviting than a certain OTHER wizarding school.

Ikenfell is incredible. Everything about it is infused with love from the combat, setting, and characters. And its gay.

One dungeon has an owl who claims it's not the owl who runs the archives and at the end of the dungeon the owl reveals it is indeed the owl who runs the archives. Most of the plot revolves around constantly searching for the next person who has either slightly more information than the last person or whoever is able to open whatever door you need opened. The combat blows chunks so bad the developers included an option to just win whatever fight you're doing in case you got bored of the three minute combat against a lamp for the fourteenth time. That being said, "Forest of Secrets" and "It's Showtime" are two tracks that are worth the price of admission.
