A Run and Gun game with flair You play as one of the three bounty hunters often hired to hunt down the felons and keep the peace in a post apocalyptic future where street gangs and selfish MNCs run the world. The game has a neat feature like taking cover which was new for me in a run and gun game. There are melee weapons and throwables like grenades. I encountered various guns like shotgun, SMG and assault rife and a whole lot more available at various points during my playthough. I am very impressed with the level design, character designs and boss fights. In coop your partner can be revived and vice versa. The game is fun to play with a friend. You can invite a friend to remoteplay with you. Sadly not possible to invite 2 friends for remoteplay, but possible to locally have 1-2 people to play with you. https://youtu.be/0qwUFhDq2I8

While the game's themes are decidedly based on 1980s action films, its technical quality is much more along the lines of a AAA action side-scroller from the mid-90s, with the gameplay of something like Robocop Versus Terminator. And to that end, its gameplay is straightforward, with all complexity lying in the challenge and ability of the player to execute well without taking damage. No RPG mechanics, minimal power creep, just an honest-to-goodness old-fashioned action platformer / shooter. More forgiving than Contra, you have some HP, and levels have checkpoints. But it's still challenging. There's a bit of secret hunting, and optional challenges and 4 difficulty levels to keep you chasing higher expertise, should you enjoy pushing yourself. But really the reason to play this game is the beautiful retro audio/visuals and the turn-off-brain action blasting. Wouldn't mind going through it again in co-op. If you like Genesis-era action/shooter platforming, you'll probably get a kick out of Huntdown.

Huntdown is a near perfect game 9.5 out of 10. The pixel artwork, the soundtrack, game play, writing, and atmosphere are cracked. I love everything about this game! It captures the essence of early pixel games from the late 90's and early 2000's. Other than a few interesting bugs there is nothing wrong with this game and I hope they make a sequel with more elements like path choices in levels, more characters, and a longer story with modifiable stats, even light rpg. I highly recommend this game to anyone of the era looking for nostalgia or newcomers looking for a Contra style side scrolling shooter. Have fun!

This is a great co-op game with some of the best, most detailed pixel art I think I've seen in a modern side-scroller. The parallax background especially is to be noted, but they've nailed the whole '90s era retro game aesthetic here. The gameplay is excellent, with boss mechanics that are both varied, fun and at times challenging. The auto-save triggers are spaced out in all the right places though, so it never gets frustrating dying. I played the game on an older TV, which unintentionally made the game look even better. The soundtrack by Tommy Gustafsson is also bangin'. Very recommended.

Recommending with reservations. An arcade-style shooter but one in which your mobility and evasion is severely limited so your best bet in most instances is either hiding behind cover or ambushing enemies quickly before they can retaliate. In that sense it's less like contra or metal slug and more like a rolling thunder, crime city, shinobi, or elevator action returns, although it plays much faster than any of those games. It's kind of hard to draw a comparison because it doesn't have a distinct lineage, and that's what I like about the game. You have to work your way through incredibly dangerous enemies both tactically and efficiently, and moving down waves of bad guys feels good. I find the faux-80s aesthetic to be extraordinarily played out by now but the production values here in terms of graphics and sound are undeniably extremely high quality. I just wish the voice clips weren't so frequent, the repetitiveness gets very grating after a while especially when they're doing tired movie quotes. The difficult point is that I really disliked the boss fights - while most of them are fair, the bosses are extremely spongy and take eons to kill, even on the early stages. Given the limited life you have it means you have to dodge near perfectly for an extremely long time, and my hands would start to hurt after a while. I got extremely frustrated with some of the late fights which were impossibly tedious. With the bosses getting so much emphasis in the game that left me feeling a bit sour. It's possible the boss fights were balanced around co-op play? I never had an issue playing the missions solo though, so it's weird that there was always this extreme difficulty spike. I grabbed this on sale and felt I got fair value, but it wasn't something I felt strongly compelled to replay to 100% the missions or try on higher difficulties. Ultimately though it's a game that despite being retro-styled is distinctly different and I believe that sort of originality deserves to be commended.
