7/10 Recommend only to buy on a sale If I could give a thumb in the middle I would. This game is OK- I beat it, but I swear to God I played it on normal, but I found out I started on recruit? It certainly didn't feel like it. The games graphics are very good, but this game needed more time play testing. There were some very frustrating parts in the game that made me want to take a break from playing. I think it was a poor choice to make healing items in the game. It's boring putting thing in a machine to craft health potions in VR- there is no way to automate it. I feel that this game was made to be played like Halo- having a shield that would deplete and replenish overtime would have made the game play a lot better. The combat is OK- the AI can be stupid, and sometimes the tougher enemies don't react to being hit, which is frustrating. The final chapter was the most fun, when you actually had a chance to fill up on health potions so you won't be stuck with low health. Bottom line, this game has potential, I would be open to playing a sequel if they fixed these problems. As now, it's worth getting on sale, but I can't recommend getting it full price.

Hubris is a good game with some weaknesses that really hold it back from being great. First of all the graphics are fantastic, some of the best in PCVR I'd say. The environments look great and the game performed well on my PC. Another strong point for me was the movement mechanics. Swimming around in the water sections of this game, which there are several of throughout the game, is very fun. Once you figure out how it works it's intuitive and quite entertaining swimming around to dodge and shoot at enemies. The climbing also worked well and was generally well implemented, although there were some janky parts where I fell to very frustrating deaths. I'm a big sci-fi fan so was excited for the story of the game. It's not bad by any means, but it is not a reason to play the game. It is limited with little background information being given on anything going on within the universe. Combat in general leaves something to be desired, which is disappointing because the set piece/arena combat moments are kind of exciting (nice music to set the mood even). The weapon variety is limited and the weapons don't really feel like they pack a punch. The enemy variety is OK, but the AI of the humanoid enemies is pretty bad sometimes. The non-humanoid enemies I found were generally better as they're actions were more basic. Overall I'd recommend buying this if you are looking for a decent single player action game to spend about 7 hours or less completing. As a note to the devs: If there is some way you could implement a save always occurring after leaving one of the crafting rooms that would be so nice. It's very frustrating to manually process all your crafting supplies, upgrade your weapon, die, and then load up back to before you crafted everything.

Just finished Hubris and it just might be the best VR game since Alyx. From the moment you jump in to the world, you are greeted with incredible visuals at every turn. Voice acting and character work in the game are great too. The game isn't without its jank, and s others have pointed out, the AI is less than stellar. Even with those issues I was blown away by how ambitious the game was and how much they got right. I hope the devs continue building upon what they've made here because it has all the makings of VR's Halo. Highly recommend this game!

Works on Reverb G2. Hubris is a bit of a mixed bag: amazing visuals and polished traversal mechanics, but bland combat and storytelling. I think, that positives outweigh negatives here, but only slightly. The game starts really strong with simple tutorial, that highlights how smooth is the movement. Even simple walking/running feels great, thanks to simulated inertia during first steps. And swimming is one of the best in VR, its incredibly responsive and satisfying. Climbing is also quite good: vaulting is very smooth, because player's body does not have in-game legs during it. But it has a few issues: it is way too sensible about controllers going inside the walls, and there are a lot of arbitrary ungrabable edges in game. There is also a pod racing section with pretty good vehicle handling, but it only lasts for a few minutes. Combat looks decent at first: underwater torpedo gun is fun to use and its shots are well animated. But then you encounter land enemies and all the excitement is lost. There is only ~5 enemy types on the surface, and basically only one proper weapon - basic pistol. There is no real use for shotgun/smg: pistol outclasses them both at any distance and in any situation. Enemy AI is not terrible: even mindless ticks will try to flank and even ambush the player. But humanoid enemies do not make an impression, that they are sentient beings. They never speak or cooperate with each other in any way and go in and out cover seemingly at random. And projectile speed is too fast to try dodging it by ducking or sidestepping, which are one of the most satisfying defensive actions in VR combat. Visuals is where the game really shines. They are almost on par with Kayak VR in terms of nature simulation and make exploring the alien world of Hubris feel like an amazing adventure, even when there is not much happening around gameplay-wise. Performance is ok for how good the game looks. The only exception is the terraformer ascension part, where the screen was noticeably stuttering from time to time even on low graphical settings on RX 6800 XT. But again, the environments in this scene were one of the most impressive I ever saw in VR: whole 5 story building full of light sources, special effects and volumetric fog. The campaign is ~6 hours long and the ending felt rushed. There was no final boss or anything resembling it, and the game ended just when I was expecting new chapter to begin. The storytelling was bland, I kept losing focus during dialogues. And it felt like player's character has no agenda and just follows instructions of everyone around while staying completely silent, just like in old FPS games.

I avoided this game for some time because the reviews were not as high. After playing it, I am quite annoyed at that fact. Annoyed at the low reviews and annoyed that I haven’t played it before. I played another game the last few days, I won’t mention the name, but think it must’ve used the Potato brand game engine. It was really quite a joke and yet on the Meta store it had almost 5 stars. Are you freaking kidding me? They’re basically was no dialogue. Weird interactions. Poorly designed everything. The gameplay was OK, but also somewhat meaningless. Then you have this game. Stunning graphics, cinema quality voice acting, Great gameplay. Unique well written story, Unique use of VR and it gets 70%?! The quality level of this game reminds me of Lone Echo or Alyx. It makes me wonder why there are potato games out there if this is what can be done. 10 stars.
