How to Survive is a fun zombie survival game with a good crafting system and co-op play, but it can feel repetitive and lacks real challenge. It’s a good casual game for short sessions, especially in co-op, but might not hold your attention long if played solo. :)

It's basic but it's cheap and fun. The crafting system keeps you hooked as you upgrade your armor and weapons throughout the game via all the random items you find. The end fight was quite annoying but other than that it didnt outstay its welcome.

How to Survive Review Overview How to Survive is an action-adventure survival game developed by Eko Software and published by 505 Games. Released in 2013, the game combines elements of crafting, combat, and exploration within a zombie apocalypse setting. It challenges players to survive on a series of islands by collecting resources, crafting tools, and fending off hordes of undead creatures. Gameplay How to Survive presents a top-down perspective, allowing players to navigate through various islands filled with dangers and resources. The core gameplay revolves around scavenging for materials, crafting weapons and tools, and managing vital stats like hunger, thirst, and fatigue. Key Features: Crafting System: Players can combine various items to create weapons, armor, and essential survival tools. The crafting system is intuitive, encouraging experimentation. Survival Mechanics: Managing hunger, thirst, and sleep is crucial. Neglecting these can lead to detrimental effects, adding a layer of realism and challenge. Combat: Combat is a significant aspect of the game, with a variety of melee and ranged weapons available. Players must strategize to effectively deal with different types of zombies and other threats. Co-op Multiplayer: The game offers a cooperative multiplayer mode, allowing players to team up and tackle challenges together, which enhances the overall experience. Skill Trees: Characters can be upgraded through skill trees, providing customization and specialization options based on play style. Visuals and Atmosphere How to Survive features a gritty, dark visual style appropriate for its zombie apocalypse theme. The graphics are functional, if not particularly groundbreaking, with detailed environments that effectively convey a sense of desolation and danger. The sound design complements the visuals with eerie ambient noises and unsettling music that enhance the tension of the survival experience. Pros and Cons Pros: Engaging Crafting System: The ability to craft a wide range of items from found materials adds depth and replayability. Survival Mechanics: The need to manage hunger, thirst, and sleep adds an immersive survival element. Co-op Play: Multiplayer mode allows for cooperative gameplay, making the experience more enjoyable and strategic. Varied Environments: Different islands offer unique challenges and resources, keeping exploration interesting. Cons: Repetitive Gameplay: The core loop of scavenging and crafting can become repetitive over time. Limited Storyline: The narrative is minimal and does not provide much depth or motivation for players. Basic Graphics: While serviceable, the graphics are not particularly impressive by modern standards. AI Limitations: Enemy AI can be predictable and lacks complexity, which can reduce the challenge. Conclusion How to Survive offers a solid and enjoyable survival experience with its crafting system, survival mechanics, and cooperative multiplayer. While it has its limitations, such as repetitive gameplay and basic graphics, the game succeeds in delivering a tense and engaging survival adventure. For fans of the zombie survival genre, How to Survive provides enough depth and challenge to be worth exploring, especially when played with friends. Rating: 7/10
