Hotline Miami isn’t just a game — it’s a full-on adrenaline rush wrapped in pixelated aesthetics and topped off with a psychedelic soundtrack. Yes, the game looks simple, but behind that apparent simplicity lies incredible depth. It’s meaty not just in terms of the sheer amount of blood on the screen, but also in the emotions it evokes. Every level is a challenge where a single mistake can cost you your life, and that’s exactly what makes it hardcore. You can literally feel every muscle tense up as you try to complete another mission. The game’s story is a whole other beast. The protagonist, a former soldier, is thrown into a world of violence and chaos, and his struggle with stress and inner demons is portrayed through surreal dialogues and unexpected twists. You’re not just killing enemies — you’re trying to figure out who you are and why you’re doing all of this. The game makes you think about the nature of violence, responsibility, and the consequences of your actions. The atmosphere of Hotline Miami is a masterpiece in itself. Neon colors, retro style, and a pulsating electronic soundtrack create the feeling of being trapped in some surreal trip. An indie so foundational that it feels generic, with a meta-narrative so overdone in the years since that it feels cliche. Hotline Miami is, of course, neither generic nor cliche. It is a game that redefined notions of what a small team can unleash upon this industry, and that brought extreme violence back into the center of our interest. Joseph Liberman rejoice, the murder simulator never died.

I don't know who I am. I don't know why I'm here. All I know is that I must kill. This meme fits the game perfectly. I don't understand what the story is talking about even after two runs, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying the beauty of pure violence. This fast paced game is straight to the point, to kill or to be killed, hesitation is defeat. Achievements requires some effort but not really that difficult. Chapter 5 is your best friend for collection related achievements. Don Juan + wall kill will help you to get A+ rating in most of the levels. Overall very recommended and it deserves to be an overwhelming positive game.
