Instead of playing the "new" homeworld 3 by the self insert narcissists at gearbox, play this collection instead. Well, buying it might encourage gearbox to further screw it up. But compared to homeworld 3, this much much older collection will make you feel more like you are in a grand space strategy game, (instead of power fantasy of a middle aged women in middle management). You will also get to experience many game mechanics the developers had the funds and time to implement instead of modeling and animating dumb cut scenes that only stroke the ego of the self inserts. Also you will quickly notice that Homeworld series (besides #3) are about the story and the epic, and not about the individuals and their petty feelings, or how much they cry and need to show emotion.

This is a remaster of the original 3D RTS Homeworld, released in 1999, and Homeworld 2, released in 2003. This upgrade combines both games with visual, audio and gameplay improvements to elevate these games to current generation standards. Set in space, Homeworld's plot centers around the survivors of the planet Kharak, destroyed by the Taiidan Empire, making their way to the centre of the galaxy on a giant mothership. They had recently discovered hyperspace technology, as well as clues that lead them to try and find their ancient home. Each mission brings them closer to their goal as they encounter pirates, environmental obstacles and traders along the way. Both games have grand, compelling stories, with Homeworld 2 taking place about 100 years after the first. Perhaps my favourite aspect of the game is the dramatic score, which heightens the atmosphere and is ever fitting for the galactic setting. I particularly love "Adagio for Strings", which sums up these games perfectly. There is a steeper learning curve involved with these games, mainly because you have to learn to organise your fleet in a 3D plane, which can sometimes get confusing, especially with larger fleets or during intense space battles. These were always challenging games to complete, and unfortunately the difficulty tends to scale with the size of your fleet. In other words I found I often times had to scuttle a large part of my fleet prior to entering the next level or else I would become quickly overwhelmed. Certainly a disappointing part of the games for me. For those looking for a good Sci-Fi space RTS experience with impressive story elements than look no further. And for those who still want to experience the classic games, they are also included in the package.

I can still play Homeworld! A wonderful story with fantastic enviroments. eons ago I was crushed to find my copy of homeworld 1 broken... And when they remastered it with such wonderful care I genuinely began crying. I've had this remastered version since it was released. Sadly now homeworld remastered collection is now an even better game by the fact that homeworld 3 is a disaster...

Homeworld series is a good place to return to once in a while. While both games clearly aged and rough around the edges even after remastering (solid one, I must add), Homeworld is still surprisingly unique proposition on today's market. RTS with a full use of 3D space is something to behold even now. Plus the story beats are just unmatched. Homeworld 1 and 2 are thriving on effective minimalism and terrific Dune-esque atmosphere with fantastic soundtrack from Paul Ruskay. Art has not aged a bit, Homewolrd can still wow you with it's visuals and scope. If you new to the series, let's take off our rose-tinted galsses of nostalgia for a sec. Some campaign missions is a drag by today's standarts, some of them are vey unfair and downright confusing. Plus HW1 lost a bit of it's original gameplay depth due to being ported to HW2 engine, so both games are way same-y than they've used to be. And I still think that they've should've included Cataclysm add-on for that sweet Kushan lore. But it's still a worthwhile effort nontheless that scratches your Spess Oprah itch. All while being a very competent game at the same time.
