AN ABSOLUTE GEM. Unique, clever, creative, fun, intriguing and titillating as all hell. It's ironic how some seasoned puzzle-game developers could only DREAM of making puzzles that makes this much sense. There's a part with a lamp that's a liiittle convoluted, but the use of a walkthrough/tips in-game through characters is so organically scripted, it's easy to trust that you'll find the solution in the game. Everything is fully possible to understand or figure out without any outside help and without you being torn out of the immersion. The use of metaphors feels like they belong, not too forced and not too obvious. Everything has its abstract place. There are surely things to be improved, but I'm so impressed that it's hard to be critical. Most areas that could be changed are surely more about personal preference than "improved" design. The one time I needed the steam guide was when my blind ass completely missed a full unlocked door in the lobby. That is however a my-brain-issue, not a game-design issue. The love and care put into this is unmistakably shining through, and I'll be here, hoping Jory has more stories to tell. Absolutely goddamn stunning, Jory. A stunning game from a stunning boy and a stunnig team!

Very creative little puzzle game that speaks to those that may suffer from anxiety. some of the puzzles are really tough, but they all have logical definite answers, and the game itself offers an in-game optional hint system to get you through it if you're hard stuck. There are some very dialogue heavy parts that may feel like a slog, but I think are more for the "suffers from anxiety" folks. If you're looking for a horror experience, don't look here, but puzzle experience is incredibly solid.

Homebody was one of my first forays into horror games, games that I thought I could handle because I didn't think it'd be too scary. It had a few jump scares that got me and the atmosphere was incredible, with tense existential moments against the backdrop of the metaphysical. Emily and her friends meet annually in a small town to watch a comet storm. However, Emily's fallen out of touch with the group and she arrives late. Pete is nowhere to be seen, Gary and Megan have grown close, Megan just wants to play her video game, Cliff is cold and unwelcoming and Francine seems distant. As the night goes on, the power cuts and a mysterious killer comes out killing everyone in the house. Emily must solve puzzles on each floor to unlock the secrets of the mansion and uncover what's really happening to her friends. Find notes and documents about Nest, the writer who owns the home, and information about the house to build a picture of who Nest truly is and what he's made. My first death in this game came on fast, getting ambushed by the killer from around the corner and hearing Emily's shaky breaths against the dead silent background made me shiver in fear. I loved stumbling into a puzzle solution, panicking as I tried to figure something out and save the answer before the killer found Emily. Using the same hiding spots multiple times can make the door break open and lead to your death, as well as hiding too late in front of the killer. Not to mention that Emily moves on tank controls! You have to learn fast with the camera angles. I remember spending multiple of Emily's days just grinding Pird Mystery to solve another puzzle, going downstairs and turning on the breaker again to just race upstairs and try to connect the wires. Every solution you find gets saved in a photo diary and helps you solve them again for the next time. As the game progresses, more of the story is shared culminating in some really honest discussions between Emily and her friends. I loved learning about the characters and who they are in their friend group, how everyone has changed over the year separated. I also really liked the art style and character designs of the game, some moments were perfect screenshots/wallpapers for my computer and I was so immersed during my playthrough. I will admit that towards the end of the game where you have to trigger the attenuator by flipping the switches in a certain order got really frustrating especially when the killer started spawning earlier - in addition the only achievement I don't have is to see all your friends' dead bodies! Homebody is an absolute gem and marvel in modern horror. Everyone who is a fan of puzzle games with free roaming and a horror element should play it.

I knew this game was about anxiety and depression when i started, as it says in the warning before you play this game, but even then i did not expect this to affect me so emotionally. It left me crying for a few minutes after i finished it for reasons i can't or don't really want to put into words in this review. The game play itself was very enjoyable. Felt like an old PS1 type horror game with a few different ways for controls. Like WASD movement or tank controls or mouse clicking or a virtual joystick (didn't try playing with an actual controller as i found WASD perfectly fine.) I'm not very good at puzzles in games at times so i was worried i was gonna be a bit lost and will need guides to help me but i did not need one a single time and the puzzles were super enjoyable and satisfying to solve, you even get a few hints from a character if you struggle. Such a good game. A solid 9/10 and worth my money. <3

Really tries to explain the age-old question, "Why the long face?" Unfortunately, it's done with far too much tell rather than show. This would include some overly childish and just borderline cringey dialogue despite having a story which revolves around mental disorders and serialized death/murder. Still, it's a generally enjoyable and fun puzzle horror game deep fried in nostalgia. It doesn't do anything new or significantly interesting which I haven't seen in other works. The "resolution" if you can call it that leaves me wanting more, but I wouldn't say it's satisfying either. Far too much of the story is unanswered, and a good bit of the dialogue is just the main character asking - with various success - what is going on and why. Ultimately, this is another "death loop" horror game. Much like all of the other games in this genre, this game can easily boil down to heavily orchestrated "do this, go here at this time, repeat this, continue on ad nauseam" until you finally get it right. It's no where near as tedious or as difficult as something like House or Outer Wilds. It's also not as clever with it's odd solutions. The stalking horror ultimately doesn't lend itself well to this part of the revelation. Instead of the monster being this scary thing which catches you off guard, it's a nuisance to be avoided, ultimately turning this puzzle game into a janky Dead By Daylight-lite looping simulator. While the game does expect death resets, it's also not very unique with it's handling of "perfect" playthroughs; I was hoping for some hidden dialogue or a secret ending. It's a perfectly average and generally enjoyable puzzle game with the occasional horror elements tacked on. It has taken quite a bit from other games, although the remixes and odd combinations - most notably the Grubcore puzzles - were a pleasant change. Worth the play through on sale.
