Homebody was one of my first forays into horror games, games that I thought I could handle because I didn't think it'd be too scary. It had a few jump scares that got me and the atmosphere was incredible, with tense existential moments against the backdrop of the metaphysical. Emily and her friends meet annually in a small town to watch a comet storm. However, Emily's fallen out of touch with the group and she arrives late. Pete is nowhere to be seen, Gary and Megan have grown close, Megan just wants to play her video game, Cliff is cold and unwelcoming and Francine seems distant. As the night goes on, the power cuts and a mysterious killer comes out killing everyone in the house. Emily must solve puzzles on each floor to unlock the secrets of the mansion and uncover what's really happening to her friends. Find notes and documents about Nest, the writer who owns the home, and information about the house to build a picture of who Nest truly is and what he's made. My first death in this game came on fast, getting ambushed by the killer from around the corner and hearing Emily's shaky breaths against the dead silent background made me shiver in fear. I loved stumbling into a puzzle solution, panicking as I tried to figure something out and save the answer before the killer found Emily. Using the same hiding spots multiple times can make the door break open and lead to your death, as well as hiding too late in front of the killer. Not to mention that Emily moves on tank controls! You have to learn fast with the camera angles. I remember spending multiple of Emily's days just grinding Pird Mystery to solve another puzzle, going downstairs and turning on the breaker again to just race upstairs and try to connect the wires. Every solution you find gets saved in a photo diary and helps you solve them again for the next time. As the game progresses, more of the story is shared culminating in some really honest discussions between Emily and her friends. I loved learning about the characters and who they are in their friend group, how everyone has changed over the year separated. I also really liked the art style and character designs of the game, some moments were perfect screenshots/wallpapers for my computer and I was so immersed during my playthrough. I will admit that towards the end of the game where you have to trigger the attenuator by flipping the switches in a certain order got really frustrating especially when the killer started spawning earlier - in addition the only achievement I don't have is to see all your friends' dead bodies! Homebody is an absolute gem and marvel in modern horror. Everyone who is a fan of puzzle games with free roaming and a horror element should play it.

Really tries to explain the age-old question, "Why the long face?" Unfortunately, it's done with far too much tell rather than show. This would include some overly childish and just borderline cringey dialogue despite having a story which revolves around mental disorders and serialized death/murder. Still, it's a generally enjoyable and fun puzzle horror game deep fried in nostalgia. It doesn't do anything new or significantly interesting which I haven't seen in other works. The "resolution" if you can call it that leaves me wanting more, but I wouldn't say it's satisfying either. Far too much of the story is unanswered, and a good bit of the dialogue is just the main character asking - with various success - what is going on and why. Ultimately, this is another "death loop" horror game. Much like all of the other games in this genre, this game can easily boil down to heavily orchestrated "do this, go here at this time, repeat this, continue on ad nauseam" until you finally get it right. It's no where near as tedious or as difficult as something like House or Outer Wilds. It's also not as clever with it's odd solutions. The stalking horror ultimately doesn't lend itself well to this part of the revelation. Instead of the monster being this scary thing which catches you off guard, it's a nuisance to be avoided, ultimately turning this puzzle game into a janky Dead By Daylight-lite looping simulator. While the game does expect death resets, it's also not very unique with it's handling of "perfect" playthroughs; I was hoping for some hidden dialogue or a secret ending. It's a perfectly average and generally enjoyable puzzle game with the occasional horror elements tacked on. It has taken quite a bit from other games, although the remixes and odd combinations - most notably the Grubcore puzzles - were a pleasant change. Worth the play through on sale.

Among my favorite games. Brilliant design. mixing coming of age with slasher horror. the dither low-res is visuals are beautiful. The fixed but changing camera angles boost the atmosphere with the single monster haunting you throughout the time loop. Sadly no official Linux support but it runs perfectly including the Steam Deck,

Much like Observation a few years back (the one where you play as an AI on a space station, not the one where you play Rutger Hauer doing noir detective stuff in dead people's brains) this feels like a game tailor made for Me because it's basically a decent horror novella that you get to read new chapters of by solving puzzles. Unfortunately they didn't quite home-run the ending for -what I assume to be- budgetary reasons. As it's crying out for a playable epilogue to actually make it make proper sense, rather than what it does which is sort-of gesturing at a lots of disparate things that could be what's going on then scarper. That said, I liked it alot! It felt authentic and genuine, we all loved Outer Wilds and it's great to see games stealing that idea and doing their own thing with it. Plus; it wasn't stupid youtube jumpscare fodder which elevates it above 99% of horror games straight away. Double thumbs up recommended.

I just finished this game and let me tell you... wow. I deal with depression, anxiety, and OCD (triple whammy) and this game, Emily in particular, really spoke to me. All the characters were very well written and I came to love each and every one. The ending left me crying. I wasn't expecting the game to be as story focused and emotional as it was, and I literally couldn't put it down (beat it in one day) I'm not one to pick up horror games, but the Groundhog Day-esque puzzle solving really drew me to it. I did have to look up some help, but that's mainly because I rush through things and have to learn the hard way lol. After a few bumps, I was able to get into a groove that was challenging but not confusing. As for the horror aspect, this was the perfect kind of horror for someone like me. Time increasingly gets shorter, and the danger becomes familiar but greater. Your heart stops jumping from scares and goes instead towards racing, rushing before time runs out and the scares get you. It was fun and didn't rely on cheap scares to create a good spooky atmosphere. All in all, this game exceeded all expectations and I'm almost disappointed I waited until it was on sale to buy it. 1000/10, would (and will) play again! (P.S. would love to see more merch for this game)
