June 2025
This game is a mess. I have a love-hate relationship with it. But in the end, I think I like it enough, though I barely recommend it. To start with it crashes if I try to put it on a higher resolution, so I had to play it on a tiny screen. There are no saves during the missions, you have to beat them in one sitting and if you fail you restart the whole mission from scratch. Some missions require 20 or 30 minutes of very precise gameplay, failing those near the end is beyond painful. There's also a massive load of game breaking glitches everywhere, it is super easy to soft-lock the game, usually by getting stuck somewhere. The missions vary in quality from abominations to mankind to awesome experiences. I believe I have to talk about every mission individually for one to get a better grasp how much the game jumps in its quality. With ratings from 1 to 5 (3 being good, not mediocre). There may be spoilers below: 1. Tutorial - 2/5. Yes, it sets up a nice atmosphere, but this is one very tedious tutorial. It is also mandatory and you are forced to play through it... 2. Kowloon Triads in Gang War - 5/5. If you somehow got through that irritating tutorial the game stars off with its best mission right away. What an epic beginning. In concept, it is a very simple assassination, but you have multiple ways to perform it and it comes with an awesome twist after you hit the alarm. Pure example of less is more. 3. Ambush at the Wang Fou Restaurant - 4/5. Even when not playing it in the intended manner it is a lot of fun. Another simple, but awesome mission. Not as iconic as the first one though. 4. The Massacre at the Cheng Chau Fish Restaurant - 3/5. A bit complicated to perform after the simple previous missions, but doable. I was unfortunate to soft-lock the game, for some reason, after I killed the guy I was able to drag his body, but I went away a bit, and when I came back, it did not let me drag his body anymore... Anyway, once you figure out how to do it, it is a fun mission. 5. The Lee Hong Assassination - 1/5. I despised this mission. It was the longest for me and mainly due to numerous retries. It took me 4 hours to beat this one. The main problem is that it requires way too much precision and luck from the player and the mission is also very long in itself. The game forces you to kill a guard, but he stands in a way that behind him there is an uneven ground and because of this I cannot properly strangle him, therefore I fail half my attempts which usually means an end to that run. Same with safes. One safe is easy to get, but if you have bad luck it will spawn in one which is impossible to get without raising the alarm. The one near the brothel had just one guard. I take him out. There are two people in the next room and some guards outside. If I do nothing, no one comes in. But once I begin to open the safe, as if scripted someone comes in and the alarm goes off. 6. Find the U'Wa Tribe - 2/5. It is a pretty painful mission. You are more or less forced into combat. But it has some fun. The territory is way too big though. 7. The Jungle God - 3/5. Most if not all the people mock this mission, but I found it to be pretty interesting. Sure, it's crazy to even imagine that in a Hitman game there would be a mission where you have to get past a Jaguar. But here it is and it was fun. 8. Say Hello to my Little Friend - 1/5. Worst mission in the game. The map size is massive and for some reason you start behind the camp. A normal person would instantly assume that there must be a gap in the wire fence nearby, but nope! You must go all the way around because the entrance is on the opposite side... Once you get inside there is a boss battle! And he has insane health, I used up all my ammo on him and he was still alive and after every shot he claims that I do no damage to him. According to walkthroughs I can kill him with guns, but it must require unspeakable amounts of ammo. Anyway, at least game let's me to strangle him. But the mission is not over yet. I still had to bomb the lab and that section is broken. Whenever I'd try to get in, the soldiers would instantly become hostile and kill my run... It was so unstable and unbearable. This mission was impossible and I had to use cheats. I enabled God mode to get this through. Disabled after the mission. 9. Traditions of the Trade - 4/5. A very solid mission. Some iconic scenes like the sauna kill. My favourite part is when you have to escape with the bomb and have to find a way without metal detectors. 10. Gunrunner's Paradise - 5/5. Fantastic mission. Even though I had trouble figuring it out on my own, the visual spectacle of it is awesome. The ending goes hard, when after clearing the hangar you suddenly have to rush and clean everything up and hide all the bodies before the client shows up. It was intense and rewarding. 11. Plutonium Runs Loose - 2/5. Not as bad as its reputation made me to believe, but it is bad. Main issue is of course that you have a limited range how much you can see, but enemies can see you from a greater distance. It is also painful, that often when you trigger an alarm the villain runs away and if you don't kill him fast it will end your run, but even if you kill him you still have to rush to disarm the bomb which is tough. The mission shines with its large map and many different pathways you can reach the ship. Still, I found this one too hard as well and had to use God mode. 12. The Setup - 3/5. This could have been amazing, but they messed it up. It is pretty stupid that there are guns laying around everywhere in the asylum, but whatever. The SWAT raid is awesome, but what ruins it is how easily you can just get a disguise and they won't touch you anymore, making the rest of the level a breeze. So all that loot goes to a waste. 13. Meet your Brother - 4/5. The twist that there are multiple clones of you is awesome. And they are super dangerous in direct fight. The problem is that you have to fight too many of them. I thought that the game just keeps respawning them forever therefore I just forced my way through into the chamber. Had to use God mode again... But the ending is so epic! One of the best endings I have ever seen in a video game. In terms of what happens, it is super simple, but the style, the presentation are so cool, it's just plain awesome! Yet again, less is more. And that is the whole game. Hit and miss, but more than half of the missions were good. When it is bad, it is really bad, but in the end it is worth it. 7/10

Kiddos these days and normies will never understand how groundbreaking this game was for its time when there was no other game where you could play as a hitman accomplishing missions in all the different ways you can imagine, especially for us in eastern european countries where most people grew up with a low budget ATi card and had to lower all settings to get a passable 20-25 FPS in most games we played, it is as hardcore as any other game from that time, either git gud or play something else, leave the classics to us old farts instead if you can't handle it, the XP era will forever be in my heart <3

I think Hitman 47 is a classic in stealth games. The game that made a breakthrough in the genre. And everyone should try this part to understand the essence of the Hitman game. Here, the pith of the game is cautious planning and perfect execution of each mission, which instantly reminded me of the fabulous game SWAT 3. The game takes us to three diverse parts of the world - we begin in Hong Kong, at that point move to the Colombian jungle, to end the game in Europe. The game consists of 12 missions. Before starting each of them, we receive comprehensive review materials, taking into account primarily the mission objectives, tactical tips, character descriptions with video recordings, maps of the area where we will carry out the action and a detailed list of available equipment, along with prices. As in life, nothing is free - we get money for completing the mission, but we will have to pay for the equipment from our own pocket. At this stage we decide what weapon to take, how much ammunition to buy for it, etc. It may not be an impressive arsenal, but it has everything you need to complete the task - pistols, silencers, a sniper rifle, machine guns for larger events, a nylon cord around the neck, a bomb with a detonator if necessary, etc. Similarly, we are not able to hide a larger toy such as a Kalashnikov in the bosom of a tasteful suit, which at certain moments in the game completely excludes its possession. Interestingly, our assignments are not constrained to killing the "object" - regularly you have got to carry out other orders, the usage of which can be more troublesome than basically disposing of another awful fellow. Exceptionally frequently, it includes maintaining watchfulness, taking an item from the scene of action or coordinating doubt at other individuals. Be that as it may, they don't tell us HOW to do it - and at this point we come to the magnificence of this game - the capacity to plan the course of the mission yourself and the joy of finding ideal arrangements. What I acknowledged the foremost was the best character animations I`ve seen for year 2000. They moved easily and naturally, characters passing by turn their heads looking at us all the time, guards on duty extend from time to time etc. It may sound a bit grotesque, but the skeletal models of cadavers made the greatest impression on me. A shot opponent falls defenselessly down the stairs, a dead body lying on the ground treated with an extra burst from a heavier weapon moves with a tremble pushed by the force of bullets, the bodies we drag twist their limbs, catching on the obstacles they encounter. At first, i myself reacted with a frown of dissatisfaction, but after a while, intrigued by the game, I gritted my teeth and tried, attempted, tried until i succeeded. I ensure that the satisfaction of completing a assignment "in one go" is much greater than securely completing a mission thanks to the "save" option piece by piece. This is often also part of the magnificence of this game - the first few attempts are about investigating the territory, the behavior of the opponent, finding unused conceivable outcomes of strategic moves, more and more experience until we reach the point when already know HOW to do everything - at that point all that is left for full victory is consistency, perfect timing of all actions, and as usual - a stroke of good fortune. In conclusion. Hitman Codename 47 is one of those games that you simply can play despite its age. It`s an inventive take on the stealth genre which has brought forth an notorious and long running series that has only gotten way better and better with time. It has its few imperfections, for the most part due to its age. Its still a fun time, but it is admittedly an extremely dated game in the event that you`ve played later entries. But they don`t truly affect the quality of the gameplay so, you'll be able to get a lot of delight from playing the first Hitman. Incredible climate, wonderful design for its time, possibility of numerous combinations, cinematic embeds and a astounding ending have set this game in a place of honor in my collection. 8.4/10

It took 24 years waiting for a discount just to play an old game. I am truly a psychopath Not yet great but the game is still pretty much enjoyable even at modern days (as long as you don't give a crap about the low polygons graphics) edit: I was (half) wrong guys. Wait until you get to the jungle missions, especially the last one, it's pure BS 😭 and could make you want to punch the devs, but the redeem is there one amazing song in those missions Edit again for Honest review after beating the game: Being a very first game in the series, they have gave a try. Everything in the game is clunky; -The AI is random, sometime they just straight up ignore that you are in sneak mode and shoot you instantly without any warning, the redeem: thier voice is fun af -The level missions, some are unnecessary huge, frustrating and boring walking simulator (probably to make you spend more time playing, the others are just too short, easy and straight forward. -The weapons and buying system, thier accuracies are horrible. They'll give a big chunk of money as the game progress but you are a FREAKING HITMAN, you don't need them for other stuffs rather than some guns, you'll have a lot of money to spare in the end, so don't bother to spend before that -The music, not all songs are great but the good one are absolute banger Overrall the game is dated, not as optimized as later games but it still run better than Hitman 2: SA. Not an excellent game but it's a fun experience to try if you are into the Hitman series

First of all, only play this game if you consider yourself incredibly patient. You cannot save midlevel and you are going to have to watch the same cutscenes, shoot the same people, sneak around the same hallways, etc. over and over again. This game is also extremely bad at signposting / telegraphing. There are moments where it feels like the game goes out of its way to teach you that you cannot do something that you actually can. Some of the levels I thought were most difficult became incredibly easy after learning some small detail about them in a walkthrough. There are also a few terrible levels towards the middle of the game that you have to dredge through that involve a lot of running around big empty spaces. Despite all this, I think it's a very charming eurojank game with some pretty great levels towards the end (the hotel level is especially good and more reminiscent of the later entries) and a pretty killer atmosphere. Another thing to note is that this isn't really a full on stealth game like you might expect. It feels more like they came up with the premise of what a game where you play as a hitman would be, and then they tried exploring that concept from many different angles. It's extremely experimental in terms of design and structure for better or worse. Only hop into it if you know what you're getting into, otherwise just check out the later games.
