I feel like this game has a fundamental flaw in that you have to force yourself to figure it out. You can just guess some things, then restart the level after you've memorized enough of it to get a perfect score the next time. So if your logic is faulty and you happened to click correctly, you're not punished. I'm not sure how you'd solve that with the format for this game, but I haven't played infinite yet, so maybe it's solved there. For what it is, and how cheap it is though, it's a lot of fun.

More difficult than the first game. Some of the puzzles took me a while. Less relaxing and more challenging - but still fun.

Hexcells Plus is logic puzzle game. This game is a really complex puzzle game similar to Minesweeper, albeit with a lot more elements to it. The graphics are simplistic but well made, the relaxing music is nice but it could use more than one track and the sound effects are extremely satisfying. I don't enjoy the levels that requires cross-thinking (such as using two parallel or perpendicular lines to figure out the solution), but thankfully, this is only a fraction of the levels. The game features a respectable 36 levels, which may seem short, but some of the levels take upwards of 30 minutes to solve! So far every games of this series has been a blast, that is if you enjoy melting your brain down long enough to finish them all. Puzzle and logic games fanatics will rejoice. There isn't much more to mention about the game, there is no guessing required, you can solve the puzzle without making a single mistakes with logical thinking, but most of the time the solution is not obvious. Everything is well explained and if you misunderstood something, you will quickly learn it the hard way and adapt. Overall, cheap, long and difficult puzzle game. Only for fans of problem-solving games!

Note: This is a generic review for the Hexcells trilogy of this indie developer. This is an ambient logic puzzle game where you have to choose the correct cell color in function of the juxtaposition of various information. The game is a minesweeper variant, but it is quite amusing to play. Everything is well done from the increasing difficulty, to the ambient music, to the minimalist UI. I recommend getting the whole bundle (3 Hexcells games, and 2 spin-offs: Crosscells, and Squarecells). 8/10.

This second game in the Hexcells series focuses on increasing the level of challenge from the mechanics introduced in the first game. https://store.steampowered.com/app/265890/Hexcells/ As before, these are deliberately designed levels that should always have a 100% guaranteed move. I would remind myself of that often. Since I came back from my summer spent away in a hotel, I had focused my PC gaming on puzzle and adventure games for several months. I'm not exactly sure why I felt so drawn to puzzles, but I have some guesses about why. Playing Hexcells Plus was when I realized I needed to lay off the genre and let my puzzle brain rest. I shared a screenshot with a friend of one of the endgame puzzles I'd been wracking my brain over. I wasn't asking for help, just showing him what was occupying my brain. About 34.5 seconds later, he suggested some guaranteed moves - without even being familiar with Hexcells' unique ruleset. His suggestions were correct. Microsoft Minesweeper is my 2nd-most played game of all time, so if I'm missing moves despite staring at a grid for 10 minutes, that means my minesweeping performance has been severely degraded. It's time to let the puzzle brain recharge. I'm now on a break from ALL puzzle games lmao. I'll play the third game in the Hexcells series, Hexcells: Infinite, after the puzzle-solving synapes have been restored. https://store.steampowered.com/app/304410/Hexcells_Infinite/
