Basically "What if Animal Crossing was a platformer". No real challenge. Pretty laid back, but that's what it's going for. Not totally my cup of tea, but I'm having a good time with it.

it's a cute 3d platformer. duh, anyone with eyes knows that. takes a lot of notes from A Hat In Time's playbook (the developers of that game published this one!), but it has enough of an identity to stand on its own. it's a little bit on the shorter side, and i was hoping for more updates, that with them, like AHIT, more stuff was gonna be added slowly after release, but it seems that's not the case, and that's completely fine, just a little sad. it's a pretty easy game, anyone can pick this up and finish it and probably 100% it (the only time i had to look stuff up was with some really badly placed collectibles, though there's not many like that, and during 3 "NG+" flower puzzles, because i lack patience lol), so the barrier for entry is very low. the visuals would sometimes glitch out for no reason, and some of the playable area turned invisible, as well as the greenery turning very low-res. i don't understand why this is a problem, but it was a thing that irritated me for most of the game. that's the only criticism i have, which isn't a lot for a game i enjoyed loads of. if you enjoy cutesy relaxing stuff, this game will definitely fit the bill for you.

This games falls squarely into the relaxtion/chill 'genre' of gaming. You can't die and there are no enemies. In fact, your goal is quite the opposite. On the face of it, the story is about becoming a professional friend. You achieve this by talking to characters and doing quests for them. The game does tell another story through collectables. Through playing the game you come to find out about a conflict between Niko and their parents that caused Niko to run away in the first place. It's never directly stated specifically what this is about but there are certain hints throughout the game that hint at what it might be. This side to the story feels more authentic and personal and gives a bit of depth and meaning to an otherwise overly cutesy game. The gameplay is like a throwback to the 3D platformers found on Playstation and N64, from the size of the levels to what you do in them. You pretty much do the same thing in every level but the brief length of the game keeps things from feeling stale. The game looks good, with each character having a unique design and charm. The dialogue is great with the game being just self-aware enough. I do have some gripes with the game, though. Firstly, with both characters and objects represented as 2D sprites in a 3D environment, it can sometimes be hard to judge hitboxes for jumps. Secondly, I encountered several bugs. While nothing was game-breaking, one glitch I experienced multiple times was distracting and frustrating. There appears to be some bug with collision and physics objects. For me cardboard boxes most often triggered this, but sometimes when touching them I would be instantly warped across the level to a completely different location. It's clearly not meant to happen and it was annoying to have to get back to where I originally was every time. Overall, this is a very cute and charming game that's great for when you don't fancy a challenge and just want to chill out instead. It only takes about 6 or so hours to complete but this feels like the right amount of time.
