It's a very short game and you don't know that it's a "Rogue Like" game. But If you are okay with that, learn the combat, then it's really fun. It takes some time to get use to with the still "cut scenes". But once you realize they're trying to make it like the comics, then you get it. Sad to see they already forgot about this game and didn't do any DLC . If you are a Hellboy fan you'll like it.

A very basic roguelike with a simple story, but it more that makes up for it with incredible graphics.

Flawed, but fun. The combat is just "better than bad" which is a problem, because brawling is all you do. The boxing controls can be touchy, and the tells aren't always obvious so you have to memorise some tough enemies entirely by trial and error: Tsar Vodyanik (the fourth boss) is as far as I got in my first night playing, and apparently only 24% of players beat him, which sounds right to me because all his attack windups look the same. The relics are useful, but I really only use the one that deals damage because why would I not? Guns are really where the game shines. Each one has a unique advantage, either stunning foes, pushing them away, or dealing a lot of damage. And these effects are balanced by the small ammo capacity and slow reload times. Using them effectively has a lot of strategic depth and feels really rewarding, which is nuts because it's the simplest combat mechanic. Gunplay is really the mortar that holds the combat wall together. I'm making a big deal out of it because the amount of fun that can be squeezed out of tapping X a couple times per fight is unreal. I'll level with you, I bought this because it had the Hellboy name on it. That's probably the only reason you're looking at it too. It's worth it. The aesthetic and the mood are all perfect. It really does look like Mignola drew the whole damn game. That said, the actual design of the interactive experience isn't what I wanted. It's fun enough I'm still playing it, but I would have preferred a more exploration-focused game; less arcade brawler and more PS1 Resident Evil. As it stands, all the scenery is just eye-candy with no real purpose: you walk through halls, get into fights in big empty rooms, and that's it. When you find a broken statue in front of a crumbling house, you can't knock the statue aside and sift through the ruins for cool clues or interact with any of the scenery, it's all just wallpaper. So, like, a 6/10? Great presentation, so-so game design, but with a gun system I genuinely hope becomes a genre staple in the future it's so good. Fuck it. 7/10. The guns bump it up a point.

It doesn't feel like a rogue like. I've had no issues staying alive through my entire gameplay and I've unlocked all the guns and bit more stuff. Just get it cause you like the visuals and most importantly you got a stiffy for hellboy

Great game but needs refining the game is bare bones right now, the cutscenes were not repeated when i restarted the game anew after a break. the controls are non standard. the gun aim doesn't have a crosshair. the major saving grace is the comic book style artwork and a decent story/action. i have only played the tutorial so far. I would wait for the devs to improve the game's polish a bit before buying. one of my friend however managed to play it in continuity.
