I have genuinely never encountered anything else that so well translates the experience of being a terrified transbian living in the soon-to-be-fascist united states. cannot recommend enough to anyone who loves women and hates the government

I'll start out by saying I love this game, and want to recommend it, but this is a bit hard to do. Like, thinking of my friends I really don't know if any of them would enjoy it. So, I'll try to explain some of the themes and narative and you can decide for yourself if this game's for you, or not. What is it? "Heaven Will Be Mine" is a visual novel (mech dating sim?!), set in a futuristic 1981, where 3 factions vie for control over things (Earth and its resources?). The game features a diverse cast of characters, each belonging to one of the factions, and you choose one of 3 possible protagonists (Saturn, Pluto, or Luna-Terra) at the start of a run, while during gameplay you can also choose which faction to align with (stay loyal/betray) as you navigate through the story. Themes "Heaven Will Be Mine" explores themes of identity, relationships, the nature of war and conflict, the need for a common enemy, or "other" ( Existential Threat, manufacturing said "other", scapegoating ). Relationships play a central role in it with a focus on both romantic and interpersonal connections. The game explores the complexities of human interaction, portraying the highs and lows of intimacy, friendship, and betrayal. The dynamics between characters are ever shifting. The concept of identity in various forms, including personal identity, cultural identity, and ideological identity are all explored. Each character grapples with their own sense of self, struggling to reconcile their individual desires with their roles within their respective factions. Agency and autonomy are a major theme. As are abuse and trauma. Reality is just narative Now, the story of the game is told in an abstract way. And while it adds depth and complexity to the narrative, allowing for multiple interpretations and engaging you on a more philosophical level, I can totally understand that this might not be everyone's cup of tea. Especially as the tone shifts between metaphors of hate/love, conflict/sex, possible, or impossible "existential threats", and literally texting with your frenemy, including the lack of punctuation and capitalisation, plus using ":>"and ";;;;>"s. And yes, the abstract storytelling style allows the game to explore complex themes and ideas in a nuanced manner, rather than relying on explicit exposition. Instead, it is using metaphors, imagery, and symbolism to convey its messages and it works, because the VN is well written. But also because of that, I did have to do double takes during some passages, because some concepts were so "alien". So my main reticence to 100% recommend this title to everyone comes from this aspect of it. It is so damn abstract at points. Strength or weakness? You decide ( just like in a VN ). Reality is just queer The main character(s) are all lesbians and the game is not afraid to explore sexuality and sexual themes. Also, in addition to Mercury (Saturn's handler), who is explicitly depicted as transgender, the game's narrative explores themes of gender diversity and identity fluidity, offering a nuanced and inclusive portrayal of gender within its futuristic setting. Which I, as a space-born trans-girl, really appreciated. Overall I recommend you look into this game if you enjoy well-written Visual Novels, in a Sci-Fi/Futuristic setting, complex characters and relationships, and engaging with abstract concepts (like trans-people ).

A superbly written visual novel, but too overly-abstract for my tastes. I can't possibly leave a negative review, but I also have no idea who I would actually recommend this to. Lesbians with philosophy degrees? Trans people with a Gundam obsession? Self-loathing transcendental polygamists? Go play it and tell me I'm wrong. I probably am.
