I am really on the fence about this game. This game has a lot of good things and a lot of bad ones. I am a "game mechanic". I look for the way the game works then use the game mechanics to beat it. For instance- in the this game, snipers make better scouts then the scouts and destroy infantry and towed guns better than any other units with a cost of not being able to ID enemy units and some view distance. The good - Game play is easy to understand and very smooth. Graphics are pretty good and excel in places. When the game goes to a self-generated cut scene, the cut scene portrays the game almost perfectly. I just wish they weren't so short and not block the view just because the game has a bush in the way. AI is decent most of the time - single player. Don't know about he generated scenarios. More on the AI later. The bad is more specific than the good. One of the biggest problems is Line-Of-Sight. For the player, it is enforced with a few glitches. For the AI, the ground seems to be flat with the buildings sometimes there and often not. I had to quit playing when the AI shot through two buildings (with no LOS through them shown for my unit) to hit me in the side. LOS will also get you when the AI kills your hidden units. One good thing about the LOS, you can click on the enemy unit and see their LOS - if it was working right. The Ai is rather stupid at times. You can drop arty and dive bomb units and they never move. Easy to sucker the AI into moving by moving a unit it can kill into it's LOS then moving back. Often the AI will move out to attack you. Typical AI Over all, I'd give it a 7/10. Fix the LOS problem and I'd rate it 11/10.

Fun and "just one more turn" addictive game. Once you get the hang of knowing how to spot the enemy, and see their weapon ranges, it is pretty manageable on normal difficulty. Two artillery for the win so far on every mission! Very little counter artillery fire.. so far.. 3-4 missions in on each the British, American and German campaigns..and we have managed to kill any artillery we come across before they get a chance to do any damage and they seem like they do not prioritize your own arty as targets. AI could be more aggressive, but they have key points to protect, so it's understandable that they keep close to the defensive points, but it makes them predictable. PvP on this game would be totally different. Have not tried that yet. Thumbs up and worth a buy at any discount (I personally only purchase games when there is a discount.) I can see where once you have done all the scenarios the game would be less interesting unless you are a completest and want to win them all on the harder difficulties. Custom scenarios will give this game a few more legs at least for a while particularly if you want to play against a friend. Worth a buy! Update: Since May 28th patch (1.00.06) a bug was introduced that will not let you complete some campaigns due to an Unreal Engine crash. I do not recommend playing until after patch 1.00.07 comes out if you want to play the campaigns. Can't finish the USA campaign so far. Again.. I concur with others to wait for a discount before purchasing. Solid fun game outside of the crash issue. Pretty easy on normal difficulty. Wish the core units had perma-death and they could use more unit upgrade features. For instance the ability to upgrade past 3 stars or choose more options if you get enough upgrade points to go back and select more unit upgrade features even if already at 3 stars.

Feels like a turn based Company of Heroes (the original one), sort of a WW2 X-Com. I like it, a beer and pretzel game. This is tactical level stuff where core units follow you through missions, but you are not penalized if they get destroyed, they show up again next mission. Those core units improve. You can slowly modernize your force as better units are introduced. The points spent on upgrading units or improving your commander can be refunded with no penalty. That means you can customize your core units and your Commander's bonuses to tailor them to the upcoming fight. Nice. So nothing revolutionary but a nice basic turn based war game.

Battle Academy returns! For those of you who remember the Battle Academy series, this game is a spiritual successor. Anyone who played the Battle Academy games will instantly feel at home playing HQ:WW2. HQ:WW2 improves upon the BA gameplay with Core Units, friendlier UI, and improved graphics. Anyone who likes turn-based tactical games will enjoy this game. PRO Grid-based tactical level combat action 3 Campaigns (USA, UK, Germany) Core units that gain experience as they survive battles Skirmish Mode Random Map Generator Map Editor NEED TO IMPROVE: Camera controls. All axis pan and rotation works; however, tilting camera Up/Down is not permanent and snaps back when releasing middle mouse button. Hopefully this will be patched.

Imagine, PanzerGeneral/PanzerCorps style rules, with a 3D map/Units with little movie cut scenes of actions. This game is fun! If you like WWII turn based strategy, you should enjoy this. Game has unit management, promotions, level ups, heroes, purchasing and carrying over your core units to the next battles, etc. Unlike PG/PzC, unit facing is important, and when you suffer losses to a unit, it degrades in performance. (Losing a driver, impacts the units ability to move) 3 Factions currently, each with about 10 missions. Looks like they could easily add more scenarios and hopefully grand campaigns in the future. No bugs encountered yet. Graphics are sufficient. There is no built in multi-monitor support, which is a bit irritating in this day and age, but you can work around it. Sound is pretty good. If you're into WWII TBS Strategy games, you will enjoy this!
