Halo: Spartan Assault is a fun and fast-paced top-down shooter that fits seamlessly into the Halo universe and takes place before the events of Halo 4 . The game offers around 4 hours of gameplay, making it a short but enjoyable experience. Considering its affordable price, I would say it offers solid value for fans of the franchise or anyone looking for a quick, action-packed shooter. For the price, it's worth picking up!

A fun little top down shooter combat simulation game in the halo universe. Not a bad game, but far from a strong one. good music though.

Fun little top down shooter set in the Halo universe, nothing special but fun for what it is. It is a 343i era game yet the sights and sounds largely pull from the classic Halo art style and sound design making it feel nostalgic. Not much replay value but for a buck or two it's worth it for Halo fans.

A top-down shooter in the Halo universe. The best way to describe this game is to imagine Halo Wars, but instead of controlling an army, you control a single unit. The game is built in a classic Halo way, with different segments with different missions/tasks to do, and you advance through them in chronological order. The game is pretty fun and well-made for its time.

In case it's not known, this game was previously a mobile title. You are getting what you paid for in this package. I CAN however recommend the game itself for what it is. Play for a little bit to take up some time in small amounts to cure the doldrums and get a little bit of that classic Halo formula in bite-sized packages. The weapon sandbox is relatively varied, sporting a large amount of the H4/Reach arsenal. I played on controller and a little on mouse, both control schemes were fine. It's a solid little blast-em-up with a Halo skin and extra story that sort of helps reinforce Commander Palmer's career before she shows up in H4. I cannot unfortunately recommend this game for longer term play. This game suffers not from the traditional microtransactional nature of most mobile games, but rather takes entirely too much dedication to complete. Assault Ops are a main way to acquire all achievements, and they are increasingly tedious to do in some cases, requiring many, *many* runs of a single mission to fully complete due to enemy count per mission run. It makes playing a slog, completing this game as far as achievements go was a real time-burner (not much else runs on my laptop). Besides Assault Ops, I feel as if there were a lot of parts of the game that were not touched on or developed enough. For instance, the economy has a lot of width, but is incredibly shallow. You can use skulls to get a higher score, but usually isn't necessary with a score booster at all, skulls aren't required for achievements, and there are no positive skulls or LASO variants of missions. Once you have score, you can buy weapon upgrades that start you with a weapon only available through purchase with in-game currency. However, none of these weapons will usually count towards Assault Ops, leading to them largely being sidelined. Armor Ability upgrades often fall into the category of simply not being useful enough to consider over options found in the field. The only thing I frequently spent currency on was either the point booster or the damage booster, as those let me more efficiently get gold stars or farm Assault Ops. Lastly, the mission structure. Most missions were fine and fun. I ran every mission I reasonably could with the Thunderstorm and Hollow Skull on for additional difficulty on my first clear. This excludes the bossfight mission, in which the boss would one-shot you with no windup on sight with Hollow equipped. I didn't find that to be a particularly fun mission anyways, as the boss mechanics are either nonexistent or don't have adequate queues for how they work (a commonality in this game for Forerunner related items). Other missions I have slight issue with are the defense on-a-timer missions. These are *extremely tedious* on higher difficulties, as it feels like enemy pacing is always off. Some missions seem to spawn enemies on a timer, while some seem to respawn them as soon as they are killed. On higher difficulties you can be constantly swarmed due to enemy overlap, or on lower difficulties have not enough enemies to fight while the timer runs. I would personally prefer a less resource-management intensive setup, where killing enemies progresses a percentage of enemies killed, or engineers escorted counts towards the progress bar. Currently, you're punished for killing enemies quickly on low and high difficulties, because of the time being the deciding factor on progression in later missions. Overall, I recommend this game as a throwaway title for once-in-a-while fun, but cannot recommend for anyone serious about this genre of games, or a non-Halo fan.
