I wanted to do a good amount of routes before making a review and this is it: I really like the game, especially when they have the 2nd game out to continue on with the story and choice of guy! Each one is slightly different OR A HUGE difference on information about you and who you are! (I forgot the girls name you play but hopefully you get it) I like the art a lot and the story! I say if you like stories building up and getting to know the guy before romancing this is for you and I think you should try it!

I thoroughly enjoyed this one for a couple of reasons. The art style is fantastic, the soundtrack is great and the story goes from intriguing to wholly captivating at a reasonable rate. This games story starts out seemingly mellow and slowly turns deeper and more mysterious and I found myself having trouble walking away (Needless to say, I lost some sleep through this story, oops). Naturally, you have to play through all the routes to get the entire story, but since each character is unique (both good and bad quirks) it never really gets dull. I found myself enjoying the camaraderie and banter amongst the guys enough to feel like part of the group, which is unusual for me in most games, but it was a welcomed bonus enjoyment. I got to care for the groups fate more than the individual romantic relationships, meaning the overarching story is better than any of the person-to-person stories. Character note: For real, some characters are quite abusive towards the main character, to say the least. Granted, none of the male characters in this game are unscathed, they have been through and seen some s**t, so psychologically their behaviours make sense. Doesn't make it okay though. It does however add a lot of depth to the characters, which is good. Unfortunately the main character is by far the weakest one in the entire game. She is literally incapable of doing anything else besides being supportive (and even then she has no idea how or what to do) and getting dunked on unless someone else steps up to protect her. She is by far the most annoying and most forgettable part of the entire game.. The overarching story is a very bitter sweet one, after all the setting is a historically grim era of war and conflict. Naturally, certain things hit me straight in the feels which made this game an unforgettable experience to me and I found myself saddened when it ended. But eventually all good stories must come to an end. (This one happens to have a continuation in Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms, yay) The overarching story is captivating and fantastic! The romance routes for some characters is meh, others are okay but I've had better. For the price tag (8,19 euros as of writing this) I can easily recommend it. The soundtrack is great too!

This is the best Otome game I've ever played aside from Cinderella Phenomenon(If you haven't done it and you enjoy Otome things and Old Disney references, YOU NEED TO). Every option is interesting with its own unique twists and each character is interesting. Main character is a bit meh but I'm okay with it. The guys make up for it in my opinion. 10/10 I can't recommend this game enough if you want to gain a base romance with a bunch of attractive and interesting guys, and different stories nearly every time too rather than the same thing over and over which is always boring after awhile.

Great game, but the translation is WTF. I can speak Japanese so at least I can understand what they're actually saying, but I'd probably hate most of the characters if not for that. Like, for example, in Okita's route he reassuringly says something in Japanese which means "You're over exaggerating. I just went to grab the katana over there", and they translated it as this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mess: "Jeez, just give it a rest. Stop throwing a ♥♥♥♥♥-fit every five seconds. I'm just grabbing my sword." Like WHAT? What???? I can't even comprehend wtf the translator could have been thinking. Another example, he says you jump to conclusions fast and reassures you that he wasn't going to do anything stupid when he'd end up just dying if he did. The translator decided this should be "Holy hell, all you do is jump from one conclusion to the next. I'm not doing anything stupid..." The translations make normal, reassuring or calm statements super ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ aggressive and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥-y. So, if you're playing this and something someone said made you go "wtf is this ♥♥♥♥", chances are it's the horrible translation. :(
