This game hooked me from the start, a great mix of the Vampire Survivors style of Roguelike + SHMUP. Now I don't like Vampire Survivors, it's a snooze, but the borrowed ideas are implemented in a very satisfying way here. After you see most of the attacks that you can get in the first few hours, mileage will vary with how much more you want to play it. There are a number of unlockables to work on, though personally I just like to play it and try to build a different engine each time. When building an engine you need to be adaptive though, as your options are somewhat influenced by RNG (as one would expect in a roguelike). I can imagine some players not being big into the 'acquire target then seconds later, fire!' style of SHMUP (I like them), but you don't have to build your ship in that way, with plenty of projectile attacks, beams, drones etc. You can get some really different and fun synergies going in endless mode with the DLC. Highly recommended if you like SHMUPs at all.

It's pretty OK. I got about 2.5h of fun out of it but you're kinda just doing the same thing regardless of what ship you pick and how you build. It's kinda the figure-8 dodge thing and watch your cooldowns and spacing. I beat it and I'm done, don't want to play any more. I like the graphics, gameplay, modifiers, art, sound, music, UI. Buy it on a good sale price.

A fun little shooter where all your weapons fire automatically in various unusual ways. This makes the gameplay more about movement, upgrade strategy, and calculated risk in re-rolling your upgrades. Pros: - Runs well - Creative weapon designs - Lots of different modifiers and synergies to explore - Different pilots and augments makes you try out all sorts of different builds - Achievements provide a good challenge with only a few minor grind fests - Easy to play while listening to music or a youtube video, which lead to me playing it an excessive amount Cons: - Randomized ship patterns can lead to unavoidable damage, making don't-get-hit builds less viable - The mid-tier scorpion boss is somehow the hardest in the game due to excessive turtling - Steam overlay does not work while in full screen mode - It'd be cool if it had leaderboards

This game felt pretty awkward at first, but once I understood its rationale, I came to really enjoy it. It leans into the positional aspect of Survivors-ish games, with enemy movement and strange weapon attack patterns creating a shifting field of risk and reward; relative to e.g. Brotato, there’s a lot more emphasis on lining up attacks over putting together a build, though the character builds can still be pretty interesting and satisfyingly bonkers at the upper end. The upgrades have intersecting types that allow for the same piece to exist in several different themes (e.g. a drone which fires beams can work in drone- or beam-based builds), which is good for the variability of builds and the flexibility of the “draft”. Generally, it feels like the dev put a lot of thought into this, and the result is really fun to play. (I should note that I’ve only played this with the expansion, so I can’t speak as confidently about the base game alone, but the expansion is cheap, anyway.)
