First off, watch the tags. They have it displaying Anime (not even close), Metroidvania (nope), and action roguelike... there's no roguelike gameplay what-so-ever here. However... What you do have is a fun action platformer, and I loved it. Great controls, fun combat, likable characters, unique boss battles, interesting music, and fantastic artwork. Sadly, there aren't a lot of secrets or additional paths, and the game is kinda short, so there isn't much replayability here. However, if you want a fun one-and-done kind of game, I highly recommend this.

It has an idea, and potential to be a great game. It's such a shame it's not. World/map design is pretty bad, there are a few secrets which is not enough aaand it's pretty boring. If the setting seems interesting, it might be worth buying on a sale. Ultimately, I'll give it a good rating as it's not a bad game, but a mediocre and lacking one.

I really enjoyed this game, but there are a couple of caveats that might turn off certain players. Firstly, this has a simply told, but fairly meaningful and surprisingly dark story that ends in a way I did not see coming. It does a good job at conveying a lot of meaning without needing a ton of words to do it. The titular Gunbrella is also an awesome combination of multiweapon and traversal tool, giving your character a way to move around that I've never seen in another game, but which also feels fantastic and is easy to master. You will travel around the world, unraveling the story and completing optional quests for people you'll meet along the way. Don't sit on them too long though as there are several you can miss if you progress too far before completing them. At certain points, you can go back and forth between areas, but this is pretty linear overall. The two things that I didn't mind, but that I think some might is that Gunbrella is both very short and VERY easy. My playthrough where I did most of the side quests, but missed a couple only took me about 5 hours, though How Long to Beat says 100%-ing it can take up to 10. I also died maybe a half dozen times in the entire game and half of those were on the final boss, who I thought might be a challenge until I discovered something quickly that made him trivial. Unless you have bad aim or bad reflexes, you won't find this challenging at all. I didn't mind either of these things as I prefer shorter games these days and sometimes, I just enjoy a fun adventure that isn't a skill test, but some players will find the lack of challenge boring. That's fair if you're that type of player, so you should know that. I had a good time with this and I hope Doinksoft makes more stuff like it.

Fairly fun game, but it's really specific for people who like narratives. The trailers give the impression that this is a more action-oriented game, but what you see in the trailer is actually all there is to the game for combat. Because of that, I made the mistake of starting this game at hard difficulty. The hard difficulty is almost unplayable because the game's combat can feel very clunky. The best way to deal with mob enemies is to kill them before being spotted. The devs know this too, as they made the first mobs a one-shot kill on normal, but it takes two shots on hard. On hard, once spotted and you failed to kill them first, you're honestly fucked. Even the most basic enemies fire too quickly for you to find the chance to position yourself right and get a shot. The combat can still be fun if you're just going along with the narrative, but it quickly falls apart when it tries to be a more dynamic game where it expects you to do more than just move and shoot. To heal, you need to hold the button, which makes your character stand still for a good 2 seconds. Go figure that you shouldn't even use this while in combat. There's also just some general clunkiness, like it sometimes gets visually messy and you don't see what's actually happening. Or your gunbrella actually doesn't block a turret's bullets from point-blank. Also, the game resets the film grain option every time you exit to menu. Narrative games like this can honestly feel pretentious. It forces the story on players by making dialogue and cutscenes unskippable. This should be optional, as not all players will take your game the same way. Some only want gameplay. This severely limits the game's potential, as it also dooms replayability once you finish the game. They at least could have made cutscenes skippable once you finished the game and could do a new game+. The way the game ended, I honestly felt like all my game time was for nothing. I don't get to explore the game again with all the upgrades I unlocked or get the chance to unlock them all. The game does have a good world that could make you want to explore it. Sadly, the game doesn't fully realize its potential. I would have wanted to stay in the towns longer if there was actually something to do. What makes it worse is they later just get used for backtracking and making you walk long distances to advance the story. From this angle, this game is similar to Eastward. Eastward, however, does a better job utilizing its world and making you care for it. If you're looking for a simple narrative game you can just go along with, this is still a good experience. If you're looking for more gameplay, I recommend playing something else.

This game is a love letter to fun and enjoyment. I Played through all of it in one NIGHT. I Could not recommend this game enough. The combat has variety, all the side stuff is quick and sweet. The HORROR or at least the nightmares you fight are incredible. I wouldn't ask for another great few hours of what at first is a silly name, into a tear-jerkin story of revenge and family,
