Another hit by Yames. Check out his other games on itch.io, such as the science horror edutainment 'Discover Our Bodies' and the religious horror experience 'Water Womb World'. 'The Moon Is The Ocean's Brain' is currently a Patreon-exclusive but well worth the price. For fans of Yames, check out the fiction of authors Thomas Ligotti and Matt Cardin.

It was a good quick game and the mechanics are simple but nice to use. I would recommend growing your own grandpa!

There is this thing with this kind of raw and surreal horror, where the idea and vibes end up outpacing the mechanical design and interactive aspects in games of this particular style. In many cases you end up liking more the idea of playing the game rather than the act itself. Growing my Grandpa sits on the opposite side of the spectrum: not only I feel the game lived to its full potential, but the playthrough was full of interesting choices, discoveries and pleasant surprises. It is above all an intelligent, focused and tight experience, with a sense of pace and delivery that is really uncommon. Even with it's limited length I think it is one of the best written games I have ever played, with fresh and original ideas and a narrative focus that glues (I'm a comedian) all the aspects wonderfully. I'm not sure if this was the intent but I really liked how in some regards the game feels like a cursed Nintendo DS game. Like a rotten and twisted version of titles such as Hotel Dusk or Another Code. There was just something in the presentation, interface design and the cursor based experience that reminded me of those games, down to the gesture based minigames that became so popular during that era. Truly a hidden gem, couldn't recommend it more.

a haunting and well-spun narrative with a charming visual presentation. i'd love to see more indie game devs make use of the FMV style, as it feels like an unplumbed recess of retro gaming goodness. the game doesn't simply rest on the uniqueness of the FMV gimmick, either. with a strong plot, good pacing, a satisfying variety of ways to interact and proceed, i thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Growing My Grandpa, and i believe you will too. if you've played Phantasmagoria (or even, dare i say, Harvester), i think you will appreciate the FMV genre explored with a similar sense of the macabre juxtaposed with the comedic. that is not to say it is as contentious as Harvester (what could be ?) but rather, this is scratching an itch no other game has really successfully done since those gems. really looking forward to more content by this dev, hopefully in a similar style. FMV renaissance now !!

It's a game about emotional neglect, a deluded therapist, a child's psyche adjusting to circumstances, garbage disposal, and about establishing a strong bond with an ancient entity through feeding it an ancient kiwi and talking to it about the important things in life. Also, what the f**k was going on in Kazakhstan before the Soviets got there?
