Beautiful visual arts and not demanding on jumping. There’s little explanation on game mechanics and the story, so they are all up to your interpretation. Overall it’s a pleasant journey. Other than the story related ones, most of the achievements are very missable in the first run. There’s the chapter selection function after completing the game, so no stress in the first run which takes about 5 hours. The game’s experience is perfect on steam deck.

For most of this game, I didn't know what I was supposed to do. But I knew that as long as I was reaching new places and gaining new abilities, I was probably on the right track. This sentiment is so unique to grief that it is beyond surprising that a game could so accuratly convey it. It's about being lost and overwhelmed yet gradualy findinding ways of interacting with the enviroment until it gains its colors again. You don't have clear objectives because those aren't real. All you have is what you feel, what you can do and the world. Beatiful and necessary.

Normally I'd give some pros and cons list along with a number rating out of 10, but Gris doesn't really fall into that type of categorization. It's not the best game I've played, nor would I say it's a perfect one, but I can't honestly rate it in terms of what is considered a typical "game". Gris is nothing short of a masterpiece in the form of stunning visuals and music that tugs on your heart with every note. There's clear symbolism of grief and how one must traverse those dark places within oneself to heal, done so in game by simple, straight forward jumping puzzles with a small assortment of hidden collectibles along the way. Each area represents one of five stages of grief; overcoming the challenges sheds new light back into the character's world and provides newfound strength to move forward. For those wanting challenging mechanics and deep platforming level design, I don't think Gris will be what you're looking for. For anyone, Gamer™ or otherwise, looking to experience a piece of art and take part in an emotional journey, Gris welcomes you with open arms.
