My main problem with this is the bosses. Remember when every Dark Souls/Elden Ring boss had a problem with the camera? Now imagine that in first person. The human sized bosses are fine, but the big ones are terrible, they always attack out of frame and move really fast. Also, this game is very easy to cheese if you dual wield and spam attacks. The most fun I had was trying to replicate moves from historical manuals (aka I've watched a fair bit of Robin Swords and Dequitem and I've tried to make the cool things they did lol) but this isn't the most optimized thing you do. In the end, it is a videogame, and a very exploitable one at that. Other than that, it is very fun to explore and forge weapons. And fighting against the regular dudes in the map is very fun, I had a blast fighting against the knights in the castle. I wish that I had a "mixed" option for this, because this game left me feeling mixed about it. With that said, I am looking forward to whatever the devs cook up next.

TL;DR The lack of in depth reviews for this game is astonishing to me. If you've been waiting for something amounting to "soulslike" vr, this is it. I've never really felt like I was playing dark souls in vr, except in this game. If your on the fence, just get it, set a timer for an hour and a half and refund it if it's not your flavor. I don't think you'll regret it. But heres as fleshy a review as I can make yet, because this game requires the souls' communities attention. This game is the only true souls like for vr so far. Proper bonfires. They aren't bonfires but they work like them mechanically, acting as the fast travel station and rest point. As expected whenever you rest all the enemies in the area will respawn, and your free to grind for matter with a refilled health bar and health/mana potions. Matter is souls. The skill tree is a little different then dark souls levels, but level progression is the same; Kill enemies, get matter, die, lose matter, retrieve matter or die trying and lose it permanently. Just what we like lol. And when you collect enough delicious matter to level-up, you return to the hub area [I don't remember what the name of this place is in this game, but it's a firelink shrine equivalent housing the alchemist, blacksmith and level up lady among others] and do a vr interaction with this games firekeeper equivalent to open the level up menu and spend that matter on perk points. Sidenote, naturally, matter also acts as money in this game. Bosses. I've only fought one so far, but it was incredibly satisfying. It required incredibly active parrying, and was all in all just a difficult boss. I don't find these often in VR. A satisfying parry system, which offers solid feedback for a successful parry without being too advantageous, or sacrificing your freedom of movement. It's pretty simple to parry a single enemy, but it gets a little trickier, but still entirely possible, when there's a crowd. That combined with the fact that each enemy type seems to have their own move set keeps parrying feeling fresh and a core mechanic of the game. Most reviews are from early access I think, I saw somebody talking about hit boxes being inaccurate, but from what I can tell, as far as like stabbing somebody in the face through a small space in their helmet and things like that, this is best in class, compared to things like hellsplit or b&s. Physics, like grabbing enemies is there, but the enemies aren't literal ragdolls like other games. I guess where other games tend to feel like a physics simulator over a combat experience, this game flips that. Physics are there but it's combat first and the physics seem to reflect that somehow, without being overscripted or removed all together. You need to find weak points in armor when attacking as well, as smacking somebody in their metal plate is about as effective as you'd expect in real life. In conclusion, buy it. Don't like it? Refund. But please, whatever you do, leave a review. This game needs and deserves it.

Incredible game now that it is finished. Gritty combat, dark and gritty environments. It's truly a VR souls like. I'm entirely satisfied.

Damn they hook and bait you with this game, 10/10 at first and then it drops you like a rock. 6 months and no content update, the first boss is also the last boss until there is a content update. Such a great idea and concept, I pray someone comes along and does the same thing but much better and more content. Sadly it's 3/10 with the content available.

Okay. I initially had a bad impression of this game. The very first couple fights feel a little silly where you wail on targets with little damage or effect. It didn't catch my attention and I left the game sitting with 1.5 hours in it. Recently another vr game crashed mid-playthrough and i decided to give this one another try. The trailers, bosses and areas still looked interesting if I could just get through the opening "souls" curve and start feeling comfortable. During the random retry i doubled my playtime and got hooked. I stuck to the old "souls" strategies of careful and slow play. I made progress, found new weapons, and started to gain levels. Enemies would get staggered from my focus in strength, and my play style started to really show up in the game. I finished the day with 3 hours in with a new weapon that looked cool and made me excited to find more. The next day i dumped five hours into the game and reached the end of the available content. The bosses were intimidating when i found them, and I felt rewarded and accomplished when they were beaten. The final available boss took me many attempts and many weapon swaps until i found my solution. The different areas were cool to explore, and I am excited for the new areas in the next chapter. Like other "souls" games this has a slow start, but when it gets going its a real treat. The weapon variety keeps me interested even while i have covered all of the released content. This game has become an excellent part of my VR library and I am now following the development. I hope the game gets the attention it deserves. Cheers to the developers. This may be my first review on steam, but this game deserved it.
