March 2025
This game was recommended to me from a friend since they said that it was very similar to Mega Man Zero, a game I would play a lot. I finally got around to playing it completely blind, on the hardest difficulty available to me at the start of the game, and I had a great time just breezing through Gravity Circuit! It's a nice love letter to Mega Man in general, but has that hack and slash platforming experience that MMZ had. I love the simple art style and designs for the characters and abilities. On top of that, this game is fairly challenging enough to keep me satisfied and feel accomplished when I beat a boss or level. Overall, would recommend especially for Mega Man veterans!

The character design & overall art direction of this definitely had me hooked, and both the level & boss design followed boot boot for the most part! Of course there's a decent helping of BS here & there, mostly near the back half of the game, but for the most part the game's lenient enough on checkpoints that it's not that big of a deal. 100% a game I'd recommend for those who're into more intense games, though its difficulty at times definitely isn't for everyone lol. God knows I'm not doing some of the more difficult shit in this, but I respect anyone else who has the power for it :>

This game is like if you took the level design of Mega Man X, made it play like a more advanced Mega Man Zero, and injected fluid speedrunning movement like Pizza Tower. It has light beat em up combos that are very fun, and the spritework and OST are fantastic. I basically didn't put it down until I 100%'d the game. Super replayable. If you're a Mega Man fan, this game is basically an absolute must play, no question.

MegaMan X meets Beat ā€˜Em Up Gravity Circuit takes most of its ideas from other past successful games. There is not much to speak of for originality. And thatā€™s not necessarily a bad thing. Every stage is fast-paced, as well as the bosses. They were fun to fight, each with a special attack halfway through the fight that lasts about 15 or 20 seconds. During which time you cannot harm them. I played on Normal difficulty, and something that stood out to me is that I couldnā€™t recall a single overly frustrating moment in this entire game. None of the bosses had cheap unavoidable moves, including aforementioned specials. There wasnā€™t any stage I got that stuck on. No auto scrolling nonsense. Spikes, lava and getting crushed cause big damage, but are not instant death. An interesting design choice was a lack of the traditional lives system. There are checkpoints throughout the stage that you start right back at, including one right before each stage boss. So you have infinite tries. Iā€™ve been playing games since the NES days, So I know all too well about the infamous NES Hard difficulty. Countless times I have gotten through a stage, died against the boss, and had to do the entire stage over again. Urgh. Gravity Circuit has alleviated such frustration. However, for those who prefer a bit more of a masochist challenge, there is a perma death mode. One death means starting the entire game over. Not my thing, but the option is there. Thereā€™s a speedrun mode as well, eliminating majority of story, conversations and cut scenes. A few negative points: The grappling hook was sometimes a little awkward to use. Double jump takes up an ability slot. I think it shouldā€™ve been innate. Actually, I skipped over a lot of the abilities because it was the kind of stuff I wouldnā€™t really use often. At all. And the story wasnā€™t much to write home about, but thatā€™s usually not a reason I play this type of game anyway. To be fair, I feel the same about the MegaMan series. ā€œWhoa, Wily is behind all this again!! ā€¦for the 11th time.ā€ ā€œWe meet again, Sigma! Not for the first time, and not for the last time.ā€ I will definitely replay on Hard mode at some point. Overall I had a fun time with it on Normal. I give Gravity Circuit a solid 8/10. More originality would have helped boost the score.

Punching based Mega Man x/zero without instant kill spikes or a life system. Checkpoints are also placed pretty fairly. The Contact damage is rough early on but once you get used to spacing you'll clean house pretty well by the end. Piledriving Bosses didn't get old. Movement is pretty fluid too, i personally preferred swappin controls a bit so the run system is on "inverse" which makes you always run. and diagonal hook was on RB (that's a seperate setting to the regular hook i kept on RT) so i could easily do the hook swings. I can only recommend it.
