Without community patches this game isn't even worth running. Why should fans make patches instead of game developers?

One of my favorite games. Sometimes i just want to hop in, level mage and clean the map like im playing some MMO. It's unplayable without mods (fan patch + parallel universe + ini tweaks to increase distance view), but they are fairly easy to install (or just get a torrent/gog version and put it into game folder).

I don't know what kind of game did players have to deal with when they played it upon release. I'm over 40 now, and I remember playing it for like 20 minutes back in days and then quitting for some reason. But playing it now with the Community Patch (now I think it was the luckiest of breaks that my keyboard refused to work in the game so I had to look for a solution and stumbled upon the information on how to patch it) I enjoyed every single minute of 100+ hours. As much as I enjoyed first two installments and all three games of Risen franchise. I really consider Piranha Bytes games a very specific brew of RPG with familiar mechanics across all games — and I absolutely love it. Yes, there still are occasional NPCs falling through the floor and 9¾-ing through walls sometimes, but that doesn't distract one bit off the overall enjoyment. The game is so vast, there's so much to explore — and environmentally fencing exploration progression through tougher advirsaries is such a good idea that Gothic series excels at. There's a gimmick I absolutely love about the game: when you're given a quest to go do something and report to another NPC or fetch something from one NPC to another, you can do that — and the quest is complete. But if you get back to the quest giver (which is in no way required, but you just happened to be around), you can most of the time follow up on that quest and tell them that you did it — and they would acknowledge that and give you a bit of XP as well. Such a nice little thing that goes a long way, in my opinion. The amout of voiced dialogue adds to overall impression of the game a lot. The character progression is smooth — although beyond a certain point you become quite OP and further increase of stats feels more like a complete mockery towards enemies so much so you begin to pity them because you can tackle dozens at a time and 1-v-2 trolls easily. I tried to make a neutral save so I could complete all available endings of the game but it became boring after a couple so I retired at that point. The game aged very well — it still looks gorgeous, some tableaus I saw literally gave me tingles. Definitely try this game, it's totally worth it.

Wasted potential - It's regularly in sale and then you can get Gothic 1, 2 and 3 for 4€. Great deal. - Don't buy the bundle including "Arcania". Just Gothic. Trust me State Gothic 3 had an unfortunate development process. The game came out unfinished. Even though the community fixed the most issues, the game has a lot of content holes. So, lower your expectations. Story When you come from Gothic 1 & 2, expect a completely different experience. Story is peripheral in Gothic 3. It's more like a Singleplayer MMO. A RPG Sandbox. If you let yourself in to this, you can have a lot of fun with this game. Gameplay The game has an overall more modern touch to it (compared to Gothic 1 & 2). Mods Over the years the community released dozend Mods. Including necessary fixes. Check out common mods, even in your first playthrough.
