Truthfully, this game is overhated. It's not a flawless game, and definitely not on the level of the Arkham trilogy, of course. But for me, I like batgirl and Gotham Knights had wayyyy more to offer than the 1-hour Arkham Knight dlc. I don't regret for a second buying it on sale, but I do recommend installing mods (200% batcycle speed and grappling speed are MUST-HAVEs), they really change the gameplay experience, like, entirely. ★★★½ out of 5

Gotham Knights is a game that is not nearly as bad as it is reviewed. Is it the Arkham Series? Not even close, nor as good as that legendary series of games. But Gotham Knights has it's own unique virtues: THE GOOD: - The graphics are gorgeous, and while Gotham City is not nearly as moody and grim as the Arkham Series, it is beautiful in its own way. Graphics really shine on character models, as well as the hundreds of stunning cutscenes. - The story is excellent. Something I think crippled this game from the begin is forcing fans to play a game with no Batman, and his death being so evident throughout the story. It automatically makes you enjoy the four characters less, which while unfair, is understandable. Even so, facing the Court of Owls and several key other figures from Batman's Rogues Gallery are enjoyable. - Customization is also excellent. Despite some additional customization options in Arkham Knight, the Arkham series always lacked in customization options. In Gotham Knights, each characters has a myriad of color and armor options all unique to them. - Combat is good. It is more challenging at first than the Arkham series, with enemies happy to overwhelm you where possible, and with a good variety in opponents, which become even more varied across the factions. Some enemies are a bit tedious (but no game can be perfect I guess?!?). THE BAD: - The UI isn't great, especially filtering through the insane amount of menus to reach certain pieces of information. Also, having a "one button" circle fill interact is terrible. You want to interact with something but you have to line up perfectly to interact with the prop or character (literally feels like 2010 game coding). - The voice acting and childishness of Robin leaves a lot to be desired. I tried playing him, but the annoying voice broke me. - Armour and modification is geared as a typical RPG with a point based "power" system that effects health, armour, elemental effect, and more. While this can be some people's cup of tea, I dislike this because great looking pieces of armour can be useless because of the RPG element. - Endgame: The endgame content is bit tough. A Most Wanted list is interesting, but because they rarely spawn, and are a never ending list, it's hard to see the point of them. Another endgame issue is the rarity of key materials required to make armour and weapons. It takes way to much grinding to just unlock certain things, with only certain events giving you the required material to craft. CONCLUSION: As a hardcore Batman fan and Arkham enjoyer, Gotham Knights is certainly worth a try for the story alone. It has some Arkham similarities and the cutscenes and graphics really carry it. Wouldn't recommend at full price, but if you see it on sale, pick it up. There is serious potential in this game, some of which is lost in the final product, but I enjoyed it.

The review bombing on Steam is kind of baffling because Gotham Knights was nowhere near the train wreck that people made it out to be. I gave myself a while before buying it as I was afraid of wasting the money, but it routinely goes on sale for 11$! For the sale price, this is a steal for Batman fans. Some common negative reviews will talk about how simple combat is, how repetitive the gameplay loop is, or how it's "not like the batman games!", the bosses are just health walls, or gear makes no sense. I played through the game on the hardest difficulty and combat provides an excellent challenge, especially as you progress into the later levels. You have four skill trees to max out, you can craft suits, melee, and ranged weapons. The game is overloaded with amazing suit styles and cosmetics, with the ability to transmog your current gear, batcycle, etc. I didn't find bosses to be immense health walls, so long as you have proper gear and level before attempting them. Gotham Knights did a lot right. Things that I think they could've done better: Transportation. You have many ways you can get around Gotham, from grappling, fast travel, bat cycle, and each character has a unique travel mechanic. However, it still feels slow for how small the map is. Other than that, the game does have a very repetitive structure, but it reminds me of DCUO or an MMO almost. It offers a satisfying loop of clearing the city, going to your base to upgrade and craft, and then heading out again with campaign missions sprinkled in between. It's not for everyone, but Gotham Knights is a great game in my book.

You know... I got this game for my birthday in April after seeing the absolute mess that was SS: KTJL. This game was judged too harshly... It looks beautiful the characters are unique, and they have their own separate character growth throughout the story, Jason Todd's character growth being the best in my opinion, and instead of trying to capitalise on the success of the Arkham Franchise by making it a part of its universe, you guys made it its unique universe, with a different Gotham, a different atmosphere, and different style. I admit, that I was one of those people who judged the game. It was before I got it, that I let myself be influenced by other people's opinions and thought this game was the worst of the worst and did not want anything to do with it, but thanks to seeing the failure of SS: KTJL, I would rather have that game erased from my mind, like it never existed in the first place, than this game... This game is a masterpiece in its own right, albeit an over-hated and under-rated one, but it still is a masterpiece. Gotham Knights truly was judged way too harshly, and it wasn't given enough time, before being squashed and beaten, to show what it truly could have been. Thank you, Gotham Knights... for teaching a valuable life lesson... I will never forget it.

I think whether or not you're going to like this game depends a lot on whether or not you buy in to the combat, and whether or not you buy in to the context of that combat. The combat is a much more deliberate take on the free flow combat of the Arkham games. The Arkham games were very generous with timing windows, this game really isn't. The bad side of this is that just mashing through it can feel awful. The good side of this is that once you slow down and get the timing down, getting through an encounter without getting touched feels amazing. The context is a bit different in comparison to the Arkham games as well. In the Arkham games what was happening took place during a single night. In this game protecting and patrolling the city is a nightly job. And the way they keep that job interesting is through loot. You basically farm criminals every night for gear. I personally liked both of these things. The gear progression system pleased the loot goblin part of my brain. The same part of my brain that enjoys Diablo, Monster Hunter, Destiny, and Borderlands. The combat became especially rewarding once I learned patterns and timing. I wound up over leveling a lot of content because I kept going to do those repetitive side missions to simply enjoy the combat. My main gripe is that even after all of this time there's still the occasional bug here and there. In the 50+ hours I played, it crashed to the desktop once. It's so strange because performance across the board is pretty much where it should be, and it just feels like these bugs are vestiges of the game's shoddy release. Overall, I feel like people were too harsh on this game even when you consider performance issues. I think they're still too harsh on it. It's not perfect or goty by any means, but it isn't bad either. I truly had a blast with it.
