GoNNER is a tough as hell procedurally-generated 2D platformer with roguelike elements, following the largely misunderstood and altruistic Ikk on a journey to cheer up his only friend in this world - a giant landbound whale named Sally - by searching for just the right trinket in the deep and dark places nearby.

GoNNeR - A short unique 2D roguelike Another sleeper hit and a pleasant surprise during the last few days of this year! GoNNeR was sitting in my library for a long time and I was thinking to try it out for a while, due to it's unique art style and setting. What a surprise this has been! It took me around 8 hours to 100% (Mind you I have 2 hours extra on the clock from steam card farming). A roguelike at heart GoNNeR has a combo system that rewards quick thinking. The art style is phenomenal and has some REALLY VIVID colors that change depending on your combo and region. The setting is vary vague and cryptic, leaving any "story" interpretation to the player. I really liked someone's explanation on the discussions, that you are a water drop, Ikk, splashed out of the whale, Sally, which is your best and only friend. You fight demons to keep her safe up until the end... After the first few hours you can easily unlock a specific weapon-perk combo that makes going through the game an absolute joke. I very much enjoyed my time with GoNNeR and my only small wishes would be that the game somehow lasted longer and there was a bit more to the story of Ikk and Sally. Other than that, it easily earns my recommendation!

I'm very bad at these roguelike platformers so I am tentatively marking this as recommended. Beautifully designed and nice, simple gameplay. But also has a huge jump in difficulty early on and if that's a sign of things to come then I probably won't play it for much longer. If this sort of thing is, well, your sort of thing then you should get a lot from it.

please don't get this game on steam, the graphics get done dirty, on xbox however, the graphics hold up as intended. plus i love the simplistic art style, gameplay, and i even think the DLC isn't actually too bad, the music absolutely slaps, ESPECIALLY in the DLC, it's a shame that the music added in the DLC is like impossible to find. another thing, this game is NOSTALGIC AS HELL bcs of how much i played it as a small child, and how much i used to suck at it, lol, i can't stress enough over how much i love this dead game, it's great. i even have mod ideas but the mod compatibility on this game is probably the worst, but if there is any (and if i knew how to mod games, let alone code), i would gladly make content for this master piece, i also have never played the 2nd game. to add more to this wall of text, if they make a 3rd game, which i doubt they will, i'd recommend keeping the simple art style of the first game, the absence of deep lore from the first game, the music from both games (DLC included), and the gameplay from the first game. i have the GoNNER profile pic for damn sake, you rlly should've told that i'm obsessed from the start, lol. welp, that's all, that's my damn essay on this obscure, dead game, i hope i get full points!
