There are a lot of reviews that just say "play it" and don't spoil anything. While I agree with this statement, I want to talk about what you should expect from this game for those wondering. First of all, this is basically a puzzle game with a big emphasis on story. The puzzles are very unique; I'm pretty sure I’ve never seen a similar game. The puzzles go like this: you try to save a person from death by possessing objects and interacting with them. You need to save the person within a given time limit. Don't worry, the time limit is just a means to make the puzzles more interactive. The time you have is more than enough, and the game also has checkpoints. Now, about the story: the game was written by Shu Takumi, the guy who made the Ace Attorney series. He has a unique writing style that combines lighthearted moments and comedy with interesting, gripping plots and serious moments. This game has around 8 story twists, but they’re all earned and organic, so it only makes the story more interesting. Many people say this is the peak in terms of video game stories. I don't know about that, but the story is exceptionally good in my opinion. From start to finish, I was hooked, and there was no downtime. Also, what's more impressive is that there are about 15 characters, and I remember all of them. They're all really cool and interesting. Genuinely, I’d probably recommend this game over any Ace Attorney game, just because this one is consistently good, while Ace Attorney has some really bloated moments. Although this game isn’t as funny as Ace Attorney, so take that as you will. Overall, I think more people should play it, just for themselves. It’s a unique experience that you don't get anywhere else.

It's 2010. I play Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective on my Nintendo DS. It's the best game I've ever played. It's 2024. I play Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective on my Steam Deck OLED. It's still the best game I've ever played.

9/10 The 21st century can definitely be considered the golden age of Nintendo in the handheld console market. The release of the GBA in 2001, the NDS in 2004, the 3DS in 2011, and the NS in 2017, has had a profound impact on the entire video game industry. Among these, the NDS stands out for its unique dual-screen and touchscreen interactivity, fostering the creation of a series of highly innovative games. Takumi Shu, renowned for directing the highly acclaimed and bestselling “Ace Attorney” series during the GBA and NDS eras, launched a unique game for the NDS platform in 2010 – “Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective”. Despite widely acclaim by its player, the game saw modest sales, making it a long-overlooked gem. The remastered version, though lacking in new sincerity, offers a good option for those restricted by platform limitations or who resort to emulators. The game's mechanics are innovative and easy to grasp, allowing players to traverse the afterlife and the real world, intervening and altering the destinies of different characters. This unique setup is hard to find anywhere else, even today. In terms of narrative, the game excels in suspense, urgency, and immersion, with a well-paced story full of twists that pique players' curiosity. The numerous foreshadowings and tightly knit logic lead to revelations that make players marvel at the script's ingenuity. The game features a large and closely connected cast of characters, whose lively and exaggerated hand-drawn animations fully highlight their distinct personalities. The vibrant electronic soundtrack adds a lot of fun to the gameplay, and the preservation of the original score allows veteran players to relive the emotional impact from the past. “Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective” initially faced some criticism for its storyline upon release, and the remastered version doesn't introduce any substantial new story content. Instead, it features a remastered soundtrack, enhanced graphics, and the addition of dynamic sliding puzzles and concept art images, which might seem a bit perfunctory. The game's relatively short duration may not fully flesh out some main characters, potentially leaving players wanting more. The narrative climax is focused on the latter half of the game, and aside from a somewhat shallow storyline, the solutions to mysteries are relatively simple. The game relies more on clever twists and narrative techniques to build suspense, making spoilers devastating to the player's experience. In terms of puzzle design, the game emphasizes the player's observational skills and quick reactions over strict logic, with the butterfly effect and the interaction between different items being more critical, making it less suitable for hardcore mystery and puzzle solvers. Additionally, the game's save mechanism and the system for skipping previously read text are poorly designed, detracting from the overall player experience. For many veteran players, “Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective" may feel more like a work of nostalgia, but that doesn't mean its quality is in any way lacking. I was personally deeply moved by the game's storyline. Just like the characters in the game, this single night's incredible, magical, and heart-stirring journey is something I'll likely never forget in my lifetime. If you're someone who hasn't experienced the original NDS version, a fan of story-driven, casual, or indie games, this title is definitely worth trying. However, for those who have experienced the original, it's important to note that this version only offers graphical and musical enhancements, with no substantial new story content. Despite being a terrible writer I OWE it to this game to try to write a review: Ghost Trick is a game that reminded me how good/fun games can be after years of fatigue. I played this originally on a 3ds years after the initial release and was instantly sucked in by its fun artystyle/music and addictive story that constantly keeps the player engaged. Occasionally a puzzle or two's logic is a bit hard to follow and I had to resort to trial and error but the punishment for failure is always pretty minor. Games like this are special and don't really get made anymore. So if you want a game that is a complete PACKAGE and won't waste your time while giving you all the fun of solving a greatly written mystery than I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS GAME. Ghost Trick Rules
