It's a fun, albeit janky, little horror visual novel. It's a Chinese visual novel that has obvious Junji Ito inspirations. Overall, the game is short, with the first route being around 45 minutes to an hour, and the other routes being shorter because you can jump to decision points. The story is pretty fun and the art is nice, but the whole thing is kind of janky. Given the jankyness and length, you might want to wait for a sale, but I did enjoy it enough to want to check out the sequel. Pros: [*]Great art and decent short horror story. [*]After clearing the game, there's a route chart to help you see the other scenes. [*]I found it hilarious that one of the routes is just saying "nope" and walking away every time you see something supernatural. Cons: [*]The game's systems are surprisingly lacking. No manual saves. No control over message speed. No skipping. Given the length of the game, it's minor, but it's weird to play a VN that has less features than something built in Ren'py. [*]The game absolutely needs LQA. The script is understandable, but formatting is weird or ugly in places. There are typos. There are inconsistencies. It's kind of distracting and adds to the amateur feel of the game.

This game is so cheap, there's no reason to not play it. Ghost in the Pool is a short horror visual novel based on a comic book. It follows Yaru, the swimming champion for the previous school year, who wants to protect her title. She wants to practice swimming but just can't seem to get in any time give how busy the pool is. So she's stolen a key to go to the pool at night and swim. Unfortunately, at their school, there are rumours that the pool is dangerous at night and people who swim their die. Are the rumours true or not? This game has just phenomenal art with a strong identity and stellar composition. The backgrounds are all quite interesting and the character designs are distinct from one-another. There are small changes over the game that you notice as exploring a scene and that Yaru comments on, and the game becomes creepier as the story progresses. The one thing this game is missing is a skip button / skip settings. You can jump around the story via a flow-chart once you get an ending and just load when you hit a new part to choose a new response, but without a skip it's hard to know when there's new lines / unread lines. I liked the audio cues but found the shock soundbite used way too often just for plain dialogue - to indicate when Yaru was annoyed. The exploration moments were great, with a few lines about the area and some extra close ups of objects like the keys Yaru stole. I loved the creepy CGs - especially the ones along the bad ending and in the school garden. The game isn't voiced at all, but that doesn't mean you're missing out. Yaru has a well-defined personality for such a short story - she's competitive and obsessive about swimming and as you follow each route you learn more about the different sides of her. I thought this game was really great and, whilst not underrated, could do with more plays. One line at the end of the bad ending was not translated into english at all, which was a silly bug, and the game crashes if you try to skip the opening animation too quickly, but otherwise it was quite good quality.

I just finished the game, which is short, but definitely recommend it if you like interactive stories and Junji Ito art style.

Well told and thrilling Visual Novel with an interactive storytelling. If you like soft-horror Mangas/Manhuas which will slightly give you Junji Itō vibes, i highly recommend you this hidden gem with it's atmospheric Soundtrack & lovely drawn Nightmares.

A very interesting Visual Novel with expert art and soundtrack that captures horror style/tone very nicely. Downsides would be some of the audio is incredibly loud and relies on too many jumpscares which sorta ruins any suspense the game was building up on and becomes predictable the more it continues. It's really short like 1 hour long but has multiple paths/endings to keep you invested!
